Update time...Let's see,

* I've been a freelance songwriter/engineer for almost a year and a half now. It's a much better gig than working for a major studios.

* SallySeersucker and I had our 3 year anniversary a few weeks ago. Another example of porn bringing people together. wink

* In June, I went to the Hollywood bowl for the first time to see Clapton & Winwood. I spent the earlier part of the day hanging out with friends on the stage.

* SallySeersucker and I went on "The Price Is Right". We didn't win anything, but had a great time.

* We went to El Paso, TX.

* I met Rick Springfield

These are some of the highlights since May.
I think I need to update more. shocked

Last night I went with Luci, her boy, and Pandie to meet Al Jorgensen and Sin from Ministry. I'm a big fan of Al's soundtrack work, and he was very personable and funny. Also, it was great getting out of the studio for a bit.

Tonight, SallySeersucker and I might venture out of the house and get our drink on. Not sure where we're going yet, but it'll be nice to spend some time with her without a computer in front of me. smile

I got a phone call from Charo tonight.
She left a voicemail.
Let's just say the phrase "coochie coochie coochie" was the best part of the message.

My life is awesome! wink

I just watched the Video Music Awards.
Does anyone even remember the last time they saw a music video on MTV????
It was the worst piece of shit I've ever seen!!!
They aren't even trying to put on a decent show anymore.
From the amature, half-assed production to the blatant attempt to respark Britney Spears' career by giving her three awards.
MTV has completely de-evolved into a useless void of bullshit.

On the flipside, my awesome girlfriend, SallySeersucker, ran the Big Bear Marathon on Saturday. She kicked ass on one of the roughest courses imaginable (think about running 26.2 miles at a 6700 foot elevation with a hill that rose 200 feet in 2 miles!). Go say hi and tell her she's amazing!

Later smile

Jesus, it's been 6 months since I posted last!
So much for keeping up on things.

After years of slaving for the man at Capitol Records,
I am officially a self-employed (ie, broke) composer and songwriter.
I just sit in front of a protools system and write and record music ALL DAY.

Like this...

Then I pet Griffin...

Then I continue writing (only stopping to get my picture taken)...

Wash, Rinse, Reapeat
It's a shit ton of work, but I'm happy. smile

My social life has become sparse at best. I am lucky to still occasionally leave the house and get a drink with my twin/agent,Luci, or drive down to Tustin and hang with my buddy Shawndaddy.
They are awesome people and great friends.

Oh, and I also got onstage for the first time in 6 years, with my buddy Joe Napolitano from Le Switch. We played a set at the Echo and then an acoustic set at Pehrspace. I forgot just how much fun it is to play live

My beautiful, amazing, brilliant, and did I say beautiful?, girlfriend,
SallySeersucker just ran the Disney half marathon on Sunday. She did great as usual. We're going up to Big Bear this weekend, so she can run another marathon. This time it's at a 6700ft elevation. She's going to kick ass as usual, but you should go say hi to her and give her your support.

Jesus' Balls, this turned into a fucking novel. There, that should make up for 6 months of not writing.

Yesterday was my last day as an employee of Capitol Studios.
I've had some great experiences, but it was burning me out.
It was time to move on.
The future is open, and this makes me very happy (although slightly uneasy).

SallySeersucker and I are moving out of our tiny, no AC, no parking, one bedroom Hollywood apartment, and relocating to a beautiful, large 2 story townhouse in Sherman Oaks. That's right I said TOWNHOUSE, bitches! (For about $100 more than our Hollywood shithole)

I have the best girlfriend and the best friends in the world. The level of support during all this change has been amazing. I am so lucky to have such great people in my life.

It's going to take me a second to transition from the anti-social zombie-like state I've been in for the past year or so, to my old self. I can already feel my mood getting better.

Jesus it's been a long time!

Hmmm, my last post was Oct 11, I think it's time to update.

In the past 4 months...
SallySeersucker and I went to Hawaii again (she kicked ass in another marathon)
My computer blew up due to a powerline transformer exploding
I got a brand spanking new MacBook Pro smile
Nelly (yes, THAT Nelly) and I saw Fergie play with her tits on iChat
Nelly then tried to get me to smoke a blunt with him
I worked with Michael McDonald, James Taylor, George Clooney, Samuel L Jackson, Bernie Mac, and Randy Newman (and a bunch of other people I can't remember right now)
Tina Turner sang "Proud Mary" and "What's Love Got to Do With It" about 3 feet in front of me
I gave Fletcher from Pennywise a studio tour (he's a big, scarey looking motherfucker)
The door handle broke off my car (causing me much embarassment every time I need to valet)
I started writing songs again

All I seem to do is work. It's hard to get back into "real life" for me. I never have time for my friends, and especially my girlfriend. It's a very difficult balance, and I have not been successful at it.

On Feb 2nd, I celebrated my 10th year anniversary of being in the recording industry. I've pretty much have seen and done it all. Maybe it's time to get out of it, and finally have time and live a somewhat normal life. I doubt that I could ever lead a "normal life", but I would like to or my job to be part of my life, not the entire thing.

I have lots of changes to make and shit to take care of.
Reinvention is a necessary part of exsistence.

Kisses,
Dan

Once upon a time...

In 2000, multi-platinum rock band, The Goo Goo Dolls, like to have a good time and a few drinks.
The first time I worked with them was during the mixing of the album "Dizzy Up The Girl".
During this session, they decided it would be neat to turn the studio into a Tiki bar.
A thatch-roof bar was purchased, stocked and placed in the live room of Oceanway's Studio A.
The singer, John, used to be a bartender, so, every night, he would man the bar and create drinks for us.
A tradition was born.

Fast forward approximately 3 years.

After a successful album and tour, The Goo's are ready to record a new album.
Of course another bar is needed. This time they stepped it up a little.
They purchased a large, beautiful, dark-wood and stained glass bar. It was fully stocked and a bartender was hired. This bar was placed in Studio B at Capitol, where it became a favorite part of the studio...

...Until now...

This

SallySeersucker and I are the proud new owners of a big-assed bar!
Who wants a drink?????
