I went to the Alice in Chains show last night in Chicago. It was great! One of the better concerts I've ever been to, and I've done my fair share. Mastodon opened, and even though they only got to play about 45 minutes, they were really good, though they didn't end up picking any of their longer songs. It would have been cool if they could've played some more from Crack the Skye, but at least they had Sleeping Giant in the set.
The Deftones were next, and whereas I like them, I didn't really like the set. They played a lot off of Diamond Eyes, and did a few earlier ones from Adrenaline and Around the Fur. The energy wasn't really there that much for me, though the crowd was mostly there for the Deftones more than any other band. They did keep their tradition of having lights that are super-bright and end up blinding you though.
Finally Alice in Chains came out. They played the first three songs off of Dirt, which was excellent. It was funny though, because everyone was singing along when they played Them Bones, but as soon as they went into Dam That River, no one knew the words in the crowd. Just shows again it was a mostly Deftones crowd. They played a lot of good stuff though, although they only played Again off of the self-titled album, but they fit a lot from the new album in, so it's understandable. They had some problems with their wireless mics during Again, but got it fixed for the most part after that. Everything was good for their set though, from the lighting to the stage design. I was really impressed, though I'm biased because I'm a huge AIC fan, and I hadn't ever been able to see them before. I'm glad I didn't miss out this time, it was worth the 14+ year wait to finally see them. And for sure the next time they roll thru Chicago, I will be there again!

I have an update on the job situation. I called the lady back the other day to see if I ended up getting the job or not. She said no, they went with the other person, but the reason she hadn't called me yet is to see if she could get me into an office that is closer to my house. There's a lot of bureaucratic red tape I assume, but I still have a fighting chance, so continue to keep those fingers crossed.
My sleep schedule is so messed up lately. One day I'll go to bed at 11 and wake up the next day at noon, the next night I won't go to bed until 7 or 8 a.m., and wake up about 2 p.m. I need to get back on some sort of schedule, this is really fucking me up right now.
So I got ahold of her yesterday finally. She apologized for being out so long, apparently they had a lot of training, and she took a few vacation days. She said that it is down to two people for the job, and I am one of the two, so keep the fingers crossed still.
Tried calling the lady back again today about the job, but still no luck. I'm starting to not even care about it anymore, even though it's the only prospect I have, just because of the hassle of all this shit.
Well, tomorrow is the day where hopefully I can get ahold of this lady to see if I got the job or not. Fingers crossed...
Well, that was a busy week. Just fought my way through 3 hours of traffic, so it's definitely beer time.
Update on the job situation: I tried calling her first thing in the morning today. It went to voicemail again, but her message was changed. She's gonna be out of the office till the 30th. Who the fuck calls someone like this and then just takes off for a week and a half? That's just crazy.
So I've been applying to jobs for a good couple of months now, but have only ever gotten one interview out of it. They were supposed to make the decision last Friday from what I was told. The lady I interviewed with today left a voicemail this morning telling me to call her back. She hasn't been in the office since. Why are they teasing me?
Well, I guess I'll actually start keeping this up. First off, thanks again to whomever gifted me another subscription. It is appreciated, so thank you.
Right now is a big time of change for me in most areas of my life. First, I broke it off with my g/f of 2 years. We were not right for each other, and made each other miserable, so it was better to let her go find happiness elsewhere. I will admit, it is weird and scary to be back on the dating scene again, but I have to be a little optimistic that sooner or later I will find the right person for me. As far as my military career goes, I jumped over to being an officer. It is definitely different than being enlisted, and I'm still just getting my feet wet, but overall I think I made the right choice for myself and for the long term. Getting more money certainly never hurt. I also had to move because I became an officer, as there was no full-time position for me at the new unit. So I am looking for a regular job now also. I am not sad that I moved from where I was, though. Being around that college town, I dealt with a lot of younger people that were just off mom and dad's leash and didn't know how to act or have courtesy for others. Being able to get to sleep without having to listen to bass booming through the floor, or people yelling outside is a giant relief.
Anyways, that's just a quick catch-up of what's been going on with me. Even though at times things are sucking for me, I'm trying to think positively and look forward to what lies ahead.
