Wow. It has been a long time since I visited the site here. Anyway, for those who might look in now and again, thanks and I hope you are all well. wink

I'm kind of drowning in a mess of my own making out here. I did take the plunge and I'm throwing all of my effort into a new academic program that should carry my...

So I've been away for ages.

But here is a general discussion point- I am really curious about: what do people think about the video game Grand Theft Auto? I got into a sort of discussion today with two friends (both male) as they described updates to the latest version of the game. In short, in my opinion, the game; which is already based on...

Hmm. Well I can't say that I agree with the sterotypical representation of various ethnic groups and so forth or the underlying sexism of the game. I do enjoy playing it though biggrin ... 'cause.... well.. it's fun. Same goes for equaly brutal games like, say Carmageddon 2.

I deal with morons, imbeciles, and assholes all day and I can't do shit about it. It's relaxing to go home and be able to release some of that anger and stress in ways that doesn't hurt any "real" person. You know, some good ol' blood splattering. Whether it be GTA:VC or some FPS.

In terms of the psychological impact that these types of games may have, I don't know. I've been playing violent, most likely sexist and potential hatred-inciting games for years. I don't know if it has had any impact on my behaviour towards to people or my view of the world in general. I like to think that it has not. I'm certainly not sexist, racist, or violent. I'm usually respectful and curteous.

I'm sure that me purchasing these types of games encourages developers to keep producing them in a similar manner. Do I feel guilty about it? To some extent maybe; as I generally don't agree with what they portray. However, they do provide me with an escape. Nothing feels as good as blowing someone's virtual head off after a day at the office. Is that wrong? Maybe. Do I care? No biggrin

Work today. Got good feedback on my project.
After work I had an hour and a half massage... our MT is the greatest! She can read the human body like most people read a newspaper. I can't wait for the time that massage therapy is so commonplace that low-income people can afford to benefit from it as well. Especially the elderly and people with physical...

Nice. Saturday in my now clean livingroom. Ahhh. I didn't get as much done as I'd hoped to, but then, I read the news (depressing) and watched the cats put in another hard day of sleeping in the sunshine.

Tough life for those cats.

Checkout "Rowboat Vets for Truth" on boingboing.net
very funny. As is the iVan mock advert on engadget.com
News is depressing. But...

Hi curgirl, and welcome to SG biggrin

GEB is super freaky, but at times hard to read. I'm working on my second reading (read it the first time ~3 years ago).

Journal? Open journals are so strange, and so fascinating. We social creatures are so funny!
Today was another day of class and work. Sooo much to read! My cats tried to help by taking turns standing on the book I was trying to read. Bless them- they do try.

Had a funny moment last week- got up early in the morning and left the house...

Hi there! Thanks for the nice note! smile

My cats try to help me do homework too... mostly by laying on notebooks or journal articles I am trying to read. They also nap on the piles of readers, notebooks, and books I have at the bottom of my couch. Last fall I had the Marx-Engels reader sitting on my couch for a class and one of my cats kept shoving it off the couch onto the floor... he must've realized I hated that fucking book - what a good kitty! biggrin hehe

Anyway... I am getting my PhD in Sociology. I'm in my 2nd year now - trying to be more motivated than last year. My research is on various aspects of body modification.

Nice to meet you! kiss
