I just moved from the bitter cold winters of Chicago, IL to the lovely, mountainous hills of Portland, OR. It was something I have been wanting to do for quite some time. I kept putting it off for a number of reasons, but finally could no longer ignore the calling of the plush greeny goodness of Oregon. Chicago is a wonderful city to live in and I will miss many things about it dearly, however there is just something I find so amazing about walking out my front door and seeing nature thriving all around me.
I left behind family, friends, my job, furniture, my bike, etc. As much as I left behind, I can't help but feel as though I am gaining so much by being here. I don't truly believe one is better than the other, however I do fully believe that one is better for me. A lot of people, over the past year, have asked me why. I never really felt comfortable giving a reason or reasons but I tried my best to abide. The truth is, my reasons are entirely my own and no amount of explaining would ever be able to express the deep inner truths inside.
The one thing I can express is that I feel more whole here. It's almost as though a part of me has always been in Portland, just waiting for me to arrive so that it can merge into my being. For the first time, in a very long time, I feel comfortable in who I am, what I am, how I am, and wherever my life may lead me.
