So, watching Daily News / Colbert Report like I do. Stumbled on the postal story problem;

http://www.savethepostoffice.com/whats-wrong-postal-service-how-about-whats-wrong-media

Basically for the too busy to sift for the story, some of our particularly conservative tax hating, immigrant burning, healthcare stomping government officials in their infinite wisdom have come to the conclusion that the hybrid private / congressional US Postal Mail is insolvent and want to abolish it due to their need to declare bankruptcy ...the US Mail. It isn't free market enough for them, and they feel private industry should take over for them. I know, it hurts me too.

This doubly sucks because Fox News Corp and all of Rupert Murdoch's affiliates are running with the story that we don't need a post service, and we can leave it up to private industry like Fed Ex and UPS, because they are OBVIOUSLY up to the task... and screw those US Postal Unions... oh wait never mind they're all union companies. Well, screw that socialist Mail system, same price mail shipping, heresy! Our holy savior Adam Smith would charge by the ounce!

Reasons Chris watches Fox News:
1. I'm masochistic
2. I like screaming at my television
3. Without a daily dose of propaganda I find a void in the pit of my moron bag

Reasons this story makes me mad:
1. Loss of essential services the US Mail provides like address changes, official documents, court summons, legal paper trails, oh yeah and a fucking national mail system.
2. 44 cents to New York or Alaska
3. US issuing of passports, ...because UPS will get right on that...
4. Did I mention we would be the only UN member without a national mail system?

and

5. Because the US Mail is congressionally maintained, it will require intervention for help on its behalf by action via agreement in the US Congress on whatever course of action that may or may not require...
So, goodbye US Mail.

I love that Fox News has debates and specialists explaining why the US Mail system is irrelevant. Oh! and enjoy checking your inbox for all your bills, summons, tickets, offers, coupons, magazines, notarized documents and packag... oh wait. Just, enjoy sending things for the $15 minimum charge of Fed Ex. HA!

The politicization of our current climate makes me stupid, every time something comes up this I can hear millions of my brain cells all crying out at once, and then I find them suddenly silenced for some reason.

Also, did anyone catch the CNN tea party roast? I mean, debate? I liked when poor Ron Paul was promulgating his libertarian views of individual freedom and choice about health care about to say give his answer of "no" to the question of individuals that do not, or cannot afford to pay for healthcare should be let to die, the crowd interrupted and said YES! KILL THEM!

(pause)

This is not my country. I feel like every individual on earth who has ever cracked the seam of a book took a collective face palm at that moment.

UNRELATED.

I believe this is a must see for anyone who cares to think, and cares what all our futures will look like

So, apparently I haven't posted in a year. Exactly. I should probably get on that, seeing as part of my "websites I click whenever I get on a computer" routine is always SG first, then Facebook, then my BBC live feeds, then my student email. Funny, that's probably the way I would list them were I to put then in order of most important too. hah.
I've been up to my eyeballs in graduate work, but, my thesis proposal was approved, and now i'm writing a grant proposal so that I can get funding! This all makes me feel so grown up, even though my roommate is playing Dawn of War in the room next to me. I think I'm going to have to move out of this house before I really feel like I can grow up, it will be really hard I've been here since I moved out at barely 20 years old, which is now six years ago, gah!~ I'm 26, and I don't feel any closer to that traditional American dream than I did 10 years ago. I'm just better read.
I've been dating a girl now for basically a year, she's a saucy Puerto Rican who sells Audi, and for all intensive purposes she is the adult in the relationship. I'm just supportive, I think I'm at the, should I move in with her place, and it scares me because I've had girls live with me, three actually- but I've never left my house with my roommates to live with someone. I got this house because it was a family home, and as long as I pay all the bills its really the best deal I could find anywhere. Its really become my home at this point, and I know for me to feel like I've grown up, I have to leave this place behind me. I'm not going to lie though, I will miss the sound of those video games from across the hall.
The only thing that I think I want to do in life is travel. I don't want that dog/fence/car/job thing, I think that it's overrated. You'd think by 26 I'd probably have figured out if I wanted children too, I'm not sure I do. But, I'm not sure I don't. I'm just afraid of getting one just like me I suppose. God I was such a little monster! The eyeliner, combat boots, pot and Nine Inch Nails weren't the worst of it, I was a bully! me! Oh man if I could go back in time I would smack myself, I was such a little douche!
Although, I suppose I wouldn't be where I am if I hadn't been there. It's hard for me to buy destiny, you know? I've just done a bunch of crap and now I'm here.

Here is strange as fuck, but I feel at home.

My friend Ashley and I from a while ago, but, it was time there was a new picture here.

I'm totally at that impasse where my life collides between Old School and Garden State.
I'm finally graduating soon, and finishing up my masters in RESD. I'm single for the first time in three years and its strange, uncomfortable and lonely. My roommates play wow and I'm a Poly Sci / Economics major- It doesn't make for guys who would listen and understand having to wrestle with the concept of wtf am I going to do with my life. Currently my 80 warrior isn't making me any money, so I've hung that up for a bit while I get back on my bike. I missed being outdoors, living in New England means me being an outdoorsy person is only a seasonal adventure because camping in snow is just too damn cold.

In case you're wondering thats my buddy steve taking a picture of us on an icecream break during a bike ride. Sure, I love mountain biking, but being a professional fat kid I like it even better when there is an ice cream shop half way through the trail... haha. Also, there is totally chocolate on my face. biggrin

I want to offer a few thoughts on election day from two of my favorite political theorists. For better or worse the nation chooses today and I can only hope that the country chooses better... I hope they vote for Obama. This polity cannot stand for another four years of amendment destructing, freedom usurping, neo-conservative doctrine.
-----------
John C. Calhoun

The 7th Vice president John C. Calhoun must be taken in context of the times. Seen now as merely a racist in terms of interracial practices and Indian treatment his ideology stants unique in the entirety of the school of thought. He was an extremely progressive thinker, contributing the only uniquely American concept to school of political theory. Also, served twice as vice president. A bastard, but a true visionary:

"To maintain the ascendancy of the Constitution over the lawmaking majority is the great and essential point on which the success of the [American] system must depend; unless that ascendancy can be preserved, the necessary consequence must be that the laws will supersede the Constitution; and, finally, the will of the Executive, by influence of its patronage, will supersede the laws..." -John C. Calhoun

"The government of the absolute majority is but the government of the strongest interests; and when not effectively checked, is the most tyrannical and oppressive that can be devised... [To read the Constitution is to realize that] no free system was ever farther removed from the principle that the absolute majority, without check or limitation, ought to govern." -John C. Calhoun

Thomas Jefferson

The third president of the United States frankly embodies this countries pulsing heart. It is his spirit that we must capture for today, with a small medium of Calhoun cynicism. Thomas Jefferson prescribed to an enumerable portion of political theories but solidified them into the founding principles of equality and republicanism. No, not John McCain-ism the actual practice of a representative democracy.

"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." -Thomas Jefferson

"Choice by the people themselves is not generally distinguished for its wisdom." -Thomas Jefferson

"An elective despotism was not the government we fought for, but one which should not only be founded on true free principles, but in which the powers of government should be so divided and balanced among general bodies of magistracy, as that no one could transcend their legal limits without being effectually checked and restrained by the others." -Thomas Jefferson

I hope so.
