I don't do the whole New Years Resolutions thing, more so I set goals for my year, at least then there's something to follow through with, whether I fall short or not. I usually keep them quiet, to myself, but I figured I would put them out for the world to see, or the SG world I guess.
For 2016 these are the goals that I have set
1) Professionally, My goal is to bring in 25% more profit into my drywall business. A bit ambitious, but since I'm the boss and set the prices, and take the jobs, it's achievable. I also plan on starting a second, or third if you include photography (which I don't consider a business but more of a hobby, even though I bring a bit of income through it yearly), business. It's one I have ran before, but never took too serious, it's always been a fall to when construction is slow. (Metal polishing for those that may wonder) I don't know why I have never followed through with it as a business, since dollar for hour it's always been more lucrative for me.
2) Artistically, I was always above average at drawing, I think having a background with photography, and having post secondary in video, both of which give me a great understanding of light and shadow. I haven't really drawn much in the past..... well, it's been years, and over the holidays I dug out my supplies from the back of a cupboard, dusted them off, and have been taking it back up, doing a small project every day ( I'm still on holidays and the family are all back to their daily grinds, so plenty of time). I am behind where I used to be in my skills, out of practice, so I have set a goal to get back to how well I used to be able to draw, and take a six week drawing course, to better myself.
3) Photography, 2015 was a slow year for personal photography unfortunately. This is largely due to the fact I worked too much, and never made time for it, so for 2016 I have set the goal of at LEAST 4 personal projects, these are the projects that take some time, and money on my behalf before being shot. These are of course besides the usual family photos, band promos etc., that I usually do.
4) Physical, I have been slacking on personal training and fitness the past few years, using the excuse that my job is physically demanding enough, and time, well it's time to make a change to that, but not like the usual resolutioners who buy a gym pass and only go for the first three weeks out of the year. So I set a goal, I love to hike, and do it a lot, in fact between hiking and dirtbiking I spend much of my free time during the warmer months in the mountains that surround my home. My goal, for 2016, therefore is to hike the Canada Trail from Rock Creek BC to Nelson BC, since this is a few days worth of hiking through the Kootenay mountain range (even if it is on the Canada Trail, which isn't as rigorous as some of my day hiking trails) it means that I have to train for it..
Wish me luck, this feels ambitious, but I like ambition!
