You know those people who no one can ever seem to be mad at -- even though they are actually shitty friends, but just happen to be super charismatic and have "really great" stories -- I never fall for that crap and it really irritates me that so many people I care about do. To all of those people: learn how to be a friend...

Hit the town last night ... investigated Heroes at TT the Bear's and stopped by the Middle East on the way. Twas wonderous! You really cannot beat dancing to old 80s -- and the atmosphere was great. The club wasn't dripping with pretentious hipsters, nor was it littered with creepy old dude types. Def going again.

I've always wondered about that Do Re Mi place. It's right next to my place. What's their deal?
bathtubgin:
Do Re Mi is greaaaaaat. I heard it can get a little pricey (I went for my birthday and didn't have to pay) ... but they have decent sized rooms, amazing seemingly homemade music videos to go along with some of the song selections, and are VERY lenient as far as alcohol / food goes -- so stock up and bring it with you! I can't sing a note, but this place was ridiculously fun regardless, unlike at bars, only those you choose can hear you belting away.
I just found out that this exists nearby:

Anyone been ... cause it sounds amazing to me. I miss dressing up. Plus the DJ is the dude from Future Bible Heroes. Amazing.
So yeah, is this event kind to newcomers?

Heroes also looks rather awesome, and would require less prep time, which is a plus on some nights. Thanks for the tip - I will definitely be at the next one -- and will try to talk to Chris if I can! My friends and I are obsessed with all things Stephin Merritt so such a small degree of separation is, needless to say, extremely exciting.

Sometimes Stephin shows up at Chris's events. He's hard to spot, being ever so small, but he's worth keeping an eye out for!
I just moved to Boston with some friends -- we are hoping to meet some fine folks in the area -- any contenders? Also former/ current residents with tips on the best of the city - lemme know!

Thanks for the tips! Yeah -- I have been to Alchemist and The Other Side already, and I am a fan so far ... Jame's Gate also seems like a chill place.
I will have to investigate the Middle East --
Shows Shows Shows... the louder and later the better.

Louder? Well! PA's Lounge up in Somerville seems to have its share of punk/hardcore/metal shows, as does the Middle East (though not as much). Other good venues for loud stuff: TT the Bear's (next to the Middle East), O'Brien's Pub (Allston), Harper's Ferry (Allston). Fort Fuck Awesome in Allston has some cool basement shows.
I'm big on going to shows. If you couldn't tell
