Here we are back again. My last post was pre honours, now I've nearly finished. Just a matter of weeks to go (8 to be extremely precise). It's good to be back here. I had forgotten just how gorgeous the girls here really are. Such a good community too! Most of all I really missed reading Scott Ian's Food Coma.

Man, exam time is the worst time of the year, by far. Thankfully this is likely the last time I'll have a serious exam period, so yay and hooray for honours.

Been listening to a lot of Phish and the Grateful Dead lately and want to play bass in my very own jam band. Think I've got a rhythm section sorted, now to find a...

You did quite well in those exams if memory serves me correctly; there's a natural number between 99 and 101 that rings a bell. biggrin

Not those exams. That was my last semester of ungergrad. Awful, awful time of my life.

Well, I've been studying thrash something heavily lately. Although the band I play guitar in is prog-metal, I really just want to have something nice and fast and heavy in our set. I've been listening to Anthrax for too long not to want to do tribute to the genre. Got another gig with Z~Z~G coming up next week, looking forward to it, I should be...

We finally started working on some of my material with the band last night, and I was really happy with how quickly the band got it together. The song should be ready for our next gig, which we're planning for about a month from now. Finally having a lot of fun in my musical endeavors.

It has bee a long time since my last blog post, but anyway, finally got along to the Turner to Monet exhibition at the NGA, lots of lovely landscapes.

Had my first gig with the new band Z~Z~G last night, got through nearly the entire gig without making a single mistake, and the only fluff of the night would not be known to anyone since...

Wow, Herbie Hancock was amazing. Saw some old friends at the gig too, which was nice.

The guy that used to play keys with me wants to go see Chick Corea with me in Sydney. This is turning out to be one fine year.

I love public holidays, especially when I manage to polish off most of my work before they come around.

Still have a small philosophy paper to work on. Can anyone think of a property that is genetic, but not (necessarily) innate or inherited? The best I can come up with is a mutation. This is strictly not inherited, because mutations are to the best of...

Canberra isn't a backwater! Grr! smile

I'd say species or gender, but they'd be innate I guess.

Doesn't excluding innate properties exclude inherited properties anyway?

And either way, aren't you then left with any property that is introduced -after- fertilisation?
bassmasterstu:
Firstly, Australia is a backwater and Canberra doubly so (doesn't stop me loving it!). Look at how few bands we're interested in come to Australia, and of those that do, how few come to Canberra. QED. If you want further proof look at our hopeless range of broadband internet in this country (soon to be fixed, hopefully).

As to philosophy, doesn't matter if they're innate. I only need to exclude up to two of the others. Your species I think is arguable an inherited property. Your species is determined by what species your parents are.

As for excluding innate properties, I don't think it necessarily does exclude inherited properties, but I'm struggling to come up with an example.

Culture is an example of something that is innate and inherited that is introduced after fertilisation, in a way. We're not exposed to our culture until we're born, but in a way, what our culture is is determined before our birth, but only after fertilisation (given we are only a possiblity after fertilisation).

Almost one week into my new beard now. The profile pic should change each week to display the growth.

Feel like an idiot for shaving off the last one now. What was I thinking? I hate shaving! Well my face that is.

It's usually rather pleasant having my head shaved.

Take a vacation, grow a beard, no one will ever notice a thing (except for maybe the beard).

I'm all for the beard but I'm liking shaved at the moment. Feels cleaner.
