I have decided to use this blog as the beginnings of my essay/treatise on nihilism in modern society and the rejection of the post-modern philosophers, namely Nietzsche and Heidegger, as well as contemporary writers, such as Rosen and Fr. Seraphim. These philosophers posit that nihilism is quickly pervading modern thought and society and that, one way or another, it is wrong and we need to evolve past it to become more complete as not only a society but as a species. Some view this from a religious perspective, which will be vigorously denied, while some view it from a moral perspective. All view it as a step towards anomie and some form of anarchism. I don't dispute that. I dispute that anomie would be a bad thing, and therefore posit that the only possible outcome for our modern society is anomie and anarchism. Nietzsche posits a similar viewpoint, and even encourages a hastening of nihilism, so that we can hasten its departure. I, however, posit that we should hasten its arrival for the sake of its arrival. There is no purpose for our existence, if anything even exists outside of our own mind (yes, I will address solipsism), and there is no objective truth to find. Therefore, the only inevitability is that one day our species will cease to exist and, as far as the universe and/or objective reality (if there is one) is concerned....it won't matter.
Although I know no one reads this, I would love some feedback or dialogue about this and future blogs on the subject.
