Cool Weather
I sleep better when it's cold. In warm weather, I can't curl up under my covers, which is what really provides me with the comfort and security I need to sleep. Cold weather lets me wrap myself in my covers to my hearts content, and I sleep like a baby. Unfortunately, I have to wake up to an apartment that's about 55 degrees in the morning. With the price of natural gas what it is, I steadfastly refuse to use my heating unit. I'm going to end up as one of those fathers who refuses to turn up the heat in the winter and just tells his kids to put on a sweater. Nonetheless, I still think I'm going to be a pretty good dad someday.
I watched Lost last night with my girlfriend. My friend Adam sent me the first season DVD for my birthday, then I showed it to her, and now we're both hooked. For a couple of reasons, the second season hasn't grabbed me as much as the first did. First of all, I feel the writing in the second season isn't as good as the first. In the first season, emotions and information could be transmitted between characters through the actor's facial expression. It seems like the second season has lost confidence in the actor's ability, because now their dialogue spells out things that in the first season would have only been hinted at. Second, I'm getting really tired of Sayid. I just don't like him. I don't like his accent, I don't like his nobility, I don't like the way my girlfriend thinks he's hot (although she assures me I'm way more attractive). The thing I like the least is his lack of flaws. He doesn't seem to have any character flaws. He's too noble. And yes, I know he's done some things that are morally wrong, but he did them for the right reasons. He's never been overtaken by hubris or anger, or been blinded by a perceived mission in the way that Jack, Locke, and Sawyer have. Finally, I'm getting tired of the back stories. It was an interesting way to develop characters in the first season, but it's not necessary anymore. There are enough things on the island to occupy an entire episode. We don't need more flashbacks letting us know that Kate killed her father and why she did. It's just not important information, and it slows down the momentum of the story.
