After The Fall
As rain begins to fall I take a deep breathe in
The scent of the freshly coated asphalt
It brings with it a conforting illusion
The belief that as the rain runs in it washes away the old
and brings with it the new.
As though it will miraculously clear away the dust from our hearts
and the mud from our eyes.
Truth, Fiction or just Faith?
If only a childish hope, leave me with it
For my ignorance is bliss
And every puddle I jump in is like a regression
To a childlike innocence that we all miss
Arms spread with eyes fixed to the sky I smile
As the water stings my eyes and blurs my sight
Yet somehow everything seems so clear
Showers through my hair
Every drop rain to my tongue as refreshing as the first
And just as dramatic as the crash that brought this downpour
The sun appears to dry it all away
Soon night will fall
And under a blanket of stars
I will hold back my wishes
For I choose to wait patiently for my cloud to return.
