Got home from work last night, Melly is taking the day off work and snoozing in bed, and I'm sitting near a window watching, listening and breathing in the rainfall. Sounds like a perfect time to whip-up a blog.
For the tl;dr crowd:
Onto the extrapolation!
WORK STUFF
It's always a bit difficult deciphering if I'm where I wanted to be this far along (nearly 4 and a half years) in my Metallurgical career, but by all reasonable estimates I'm going pretty well. Moving from a green-as-can-be, scum-bag Graduate Metallurgist to being considered for a Senior Metallurgist position in only 4 years (which typically takes a Met of 6-8 years of experience in that particular metal) says that I'm moving in the right direction.
I've also got a big whiteboard that I've basically covered entirely in solving a problem I've encountered on one of my projects regarding fluid dynamics, so I feel like a mother-fucking scientist too instead of the typical bucket-chemist and hack accountant ![]()
One of the great pleasures in my life is getting picked up at the airport after a swing of work. It's such a seemingly small gesture, but reliably having it as soon as I step off that plane puts me at ease almost instantly. Thanks Melleah ![]()
HOUSE STUFF
So far, so good! Hasn't really been that stressful yet (I'm into pre-start, no slab on the ground etc but I own the land), but that's mostly because I meticulously check other peoples work.
I know that at work, in every report and presentation, I strive to prepare and perform it in the most professional manner warranted, and I fuck up. I fuck up the smallest of details pretty damn consistently. But that's OK because once it's passed over another set of eyes it all seems so obvious and ho-ho a lessoned is learned thanks buddy-o-pal.
The people who organise my finance, settlement, real estate and housing are not my "buddies".
But it's OK. You check over their work at a slower rate than they'd probably like, you spot the irregularities and they get fixed on the spot before anything is signed.
Definitely makes you double-guess what you've previously been told in person, but not seen yet on paper (hello surprise $1,800 fee for European House Borer payment that we explicitly asked about months ago, but now have to pay because that's what it says on the paper work).
As for the house design itself (PM me if you want to see a plan
) it's a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom, double-garage house with a study, theatre, alfresco etc. More than enough space for just Melly, Hyde, our future dog and I. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the high-ceiling entry way flows into the centre of the house, I reckon it's gonna look the tits, big ol' firm tities.
I'll be using this blog to update build photos as it starts rising out of the ground, I'm quite excited it's nearly at that stage ![]()
MUSIC STUFF
As time moves forward, so does my love of music. Really getting neck-deep into the prog-djent movement these days, here're some stuff that I'm listening to these days that really cooks my goose.
You're able to download a lot of these artists material for free either off Soundcloud or Bandcamp ![]()
This weekend I'm off to Bastardfest. 10 hours of STRAIGHT METAL (2 stages!) and beer and pizza and METALLLL!!!! Can not fucking wait to get my mill on, need a good mill, neeeeeeeeeed.
PHOTO STUFF

That'll do for now, hope you're all well ![]()

Ain't he a cute lil' fella? ![]()
Melly and I picked him up yesterday and it was all pretty uneventful until I finally got to drive her swift!
I knew sticking around for this long would pay dividends soon enough.
Melly says hi, too
I started a little experiment about 2 weeks ago to see if I could justify upgrading from my piece of shit phone to a something a bit nicer. After I ran out of credit, I would see how long it'd take before I actually needed to recharge again.
I'm a frequent Skype user these days, and so far it seems to be satisfying my needs completely. Calling the folks from Europe was a damn-sight cheaper than the ~$3.50 per 30 seconds plus flagfall (About 22c a minute, IIRC) and it allows me to talk face-to-face with my lady while I'm at work for free
Even if I have to text anyone, the 11c cost is more than half cheaper (and way faster) than using a phone.
As a nice added bonus, my remaining credit is on a number just there, and isn't a largely unknown quantity like it is on a phone.
SO! For the past 15 days my phone has been a phone listing, clock and alarm. Won't even be a phone listing soon once I get around to updating Skype. The SIM will last 3 months in between recharges so I've got a little under 2 months until it expires. I'll letcha know how it goes ![]()
Things are going very well lately. I'm gonna keep on chuggin'
Here's hoping I can sneak in a week or two overseas next year.
Oh, and here's something rad and for fans of stuff that is good
====================
Dom: The further you go down [the street] the cheaper the beers get.
Sgt Party: You go down far enough and the beers are for free.
Tee: Are you saying there are NO slower trains, regional trains, going to Nantes tomorrow? None?
Information Desk - French woman: Non.
Tee: *stares*
French idiot: *stares*
Tee: [you're LYING!!!] Goodbye.
(She totally was lying by the way, hated her!)
Making she-pee's out of beer coasters.
Unsuccessfully drinking Jagermiester through the nose.
Booking accommodation in what can only be described as a cultist compound.
Being kindly asked to step away from a train ticket ticket machine by a heavily armed French Infantryman.
And plenty of other things, but they'll come up in conversation I'm sure if we ever have a chat
Oh and who was the kind soul to reactivated my account? Got an email saying my credit card was rejected (because I have a new once since then) so whoever it was, pipe up and I'll buy you a beer

Ginger_Eve is coming to stay at my place today
Lesley and I, upon our first face-to-face, went to an international beer shop(pe) and bought a hellova lot of booze, with the Terrible was the stand out. 6 months later we finally get a cahones to crack it open and have a drink.
Initially, it was more atrocious than terrible, but after a few sips you stopped noticing the floating bits of material in there and it wasn't a bad dark ale. It was only when you started to drink the bottom third than the floaters came back and made it wretched ![]()
The end result was a hangover that was incredibly in-proportional to the amount of booze I had drunk. Curse you Terrible!! ![]()
Chilled out with other peoples the following day, just a little worse for wear ![]()

A good bathing in the ocean spray was just what I needed to start the day and, well, finish the day
Thanks for letting us cruise around your place afterward Bec and Matt, you're troopers.
If anyone was paying attention to my previous blogs (and you were. weren't you?
) you would have known that last year the best band I had seen last year, and just maybe of all time, was an American ambient black metal band.

I found out a little while ago that they're playing in Australia, but not Perth! Thankfully, I can catch them when I get back from work and have a whirlwind trip to Melbourne
I mention this because it's the start of another great year in metal.
Wolves in the Throne Room, Monarch, Clutch, Isis, Baroness, Meshuggah, Faith No More, Devin Townsend Band, Behemoth, Goatwhore, Nile, Hate Eternal in the coming 3 months. Excellent stuff ![]()
That's about it folks, stay groovy and/or metal, as is your preference ![]()
Here's some pretty sweet testicles out of pants Swedish death metal

A Year In Review Pt. 2
Before I go on, a small amendment is required to the previous Plans that didn't go according to plan list. Specifically, I got promoted finally! As of the 31st, I'm a Plant Metallurgist so waahoo for me
