When I lived in Wyoming, the Shoshone and Arapaho Indians had a standard greeting for us townies: "Hey Cowboy," they'd say. I always understood it as an insult--whether it was intended to be or not, I can't be sure. But I would say to them, "Don't call me that; I ain't no fucking cowboy."
