As long as your drive is physically working, if you haven't already reformatted it, you should be able to retrieve the files on it just by adding it as a slave on another machine.

I'm sorry to hear that, but you may be abele to get most if not all of them back with File Salvage and Photorescue, from what I hear they can get most photos and other stuff back.
