i've been very un-metal lately. these are the last CD's i've bought -

The Best of Cirque De Soleil
The Best of Sting and The Police
Enigma - The Screen Behind the Mirror
Carnivale - Soundtrack
Deep Forest - Music Detected

so, to the metal community out there, i apologize. i will, however, let you all know that the next CD's i plan on purchasing are the new Mudvayne and the new NIN albums. (yes, NIN is finally releasing a new album in May. they're already rehearsing to go on tour)

but to be honest, i just don't like any of the new metal bands coming out nowadays. most of the new bands that are surfacing seem to really have no direction with their anger. i tried listening to the new Otep disc and it's just mindless. the singer is just screaming and moaning random sentences. at one point, i even started laughing cause it sounded more like a parody than a real metal song.

metal, like all alternative styles of music, is supposed to be a reaction to feelings you have. and then the form of music you play is supposed to be the only way you can express those strong emotions. if you're just screaming "fuck fuck fuck. kill kill kill. i hate your face," then you're not reacting, you're just screaming what you're thinking about. that's one of the reasons i loved sepultura, but never got into soulfly. metal, much like the rest of music, needs to find it's passion. till then, i'll continue exploring new genres of music while continuing to pick up discs by the bands who still have something important to say and they can say it with feeling.
