I can understand people not trusting other immediately, trust often times like respect is something that is earned. But then again, I agree with one of your points, it's not right to just string someone along if you know it's not going anywhere. People often times are in love with the idea of being in love with someone, which complicates it even more so if one person actually does have feeling which the other knowingly can never return. Some people simply want the security that comes with it, you're right on that. But I think to others a relationship is simply a status symbol. While most people are fine with being able to be alone, no one truly wants to be alone despite how well we can cope with it. So when we do have someone we want to flaunt it, and we're very hesitant to let go of it. I simply think it's in people's nature to use others and take people for granted, people at their core are self centered, not all are self centered about the same things. Could be a job, a relationship, how competitive they are and so on, but it comes out somewhere at some point. I wish I could give you some awesome words of encouragement but I don't know that there are any cause the truth is as we all know bad things happen to good people on a routine basis, fate is a cruel and merciless mistress. I guess the encouraging part would be to tell you to not let it jade you cause there are some people out there worth your time, there are some people worth enduring the bullshit for. The question is just how far are you willing to go and how much of this horse shit can you endure to get there, many give up and get lost along the way.

It took me a while, but with each selfish person I've met, I became more rigid and selective on who I've allowed in my life. I don't shut anyone out initially, but if I saw certain signs or heard often used cues that exploiters and takers love to use, they were out of my life like that.

Those are just people that secretly have no real self esteem. They think anyone that actually treats them well, MUST have something wrong with them, so they go for people that don't give them the time if day.

Relationships are such a pain. I hope you find someone that really truly appreciates you. Say no to dicks!

I am so sorry that you have to go through that. I know exactly what you mean when you say that every one of tose excuses are bullshit. I have heard them to many times in my life as well. I have never had a relationship where my girlfriend hadnt cheated on me often using one of those excuses. For me, I think I have a pattern in holding on to someone who needs that safety net until they feel better about themselves and then they move on to destroy their souls again. I am trying not to fall into that again and be more patient. Its lonely doing so, but you should also decide that You need to be selfish for you and find something that makes your heart sing and soul glow. there is a man out there ( or on here) who will tear your world apart in a good way and help you rebuild it into your own Euphoria. And there will be a thousand men who will want to be that one. I hope this helps

It's because people take advantage of kindess. Also, as much as I hate to admit it, I'm unhappily playing the role of the safety net for a girl who has explained to me that despite her thinking I'm a nice guy, she has no interest in me romantically. I suppose I'm hanging onto the hope that one day she might come around, but I know the chances are slim to none.
