Probably come up before, but...

what are your favourite track openings?

(question inspired by Voodoo Chile)

The Cure - Just One Kiss
Pigface - Divebomber
The Smiths - Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me

I'm sure there's more that I really like a lot independently of the rest of the song, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. Oh...yeah, except I also like the opening to The Bravery's Unconditional...yeah yeah, bite me.

Orbital - The Girl With the Sun in Her Head
Orbital - Dwr Budr

I hadn't listened to In Sides in aaages, and just pulled it out again and can't believe I missed these two. "Dwr Budr" may have one of the most awesome intros ever.

Gotta love the opening of The Smiths - How Soon Is Now. But the opening bit on The Beatles: Hard Days Night is probably my favorite.
Edit: the opening feedback of "I Feel Fine" is another classic Beatle opening.

I probably couldn't say my favorite one of all time without a lot of thought but off the cuff I really like 'Kissing the Lipless' by the Shins, I guess i am just a fan of clapping and shouting.

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana (even though it is my least favorite song by Nirvana, the beginning kicks ass.)

Kill The King - Megadeth

and, although completely cliche,

Closer - NIN

It's 96 seconds really, but yes! So good. Some others:

ZZ Top - La Grange.
The Doors - Roadhouse Blues, Break On Through (To The Other Side).
Van Morrison - Moodance. Those seventh chords come in and you just know it's going to be good. Very good.
Rage Against The Machine - Wake Up.
Neil Diamond - Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon.
Duran Duran - Ordinary World.
Echo & The Bunnymen - The Cutter, The Killing Moon.

The piano intro on Springsteen's New York City Serenade is literally the best intro of any song I've heard, ever.

The opening to Rocket gets my vote... but then, so does the whole song. And the whole album. Listening now, as it happens.
