Record collector dork alert!!!

So I was at a record store of the weekend and noticed that Geffen re-released Appitite For Distruction on vinyl with the cover original artwork that was banned and moved to the inside of the record after the first pressing which was pulled from the shelf. It pissed me off because I was the only one person I knew who found a copy of this and had been offered tons of money for it in the past. Anyway, it got me thinking, what are some of your best thrift store finds. I got Appitite along with Lies and a double 12 inch live GnR bootleg at Goodwill for 4 bucks total. I also got a copy of Slayers Reign in Blood back when it was on DEF JAM, not Def American, on another trip to Goodwill. So what are some of you finds?

i once found an original Archie's vinyl album from the 60's at Salvation Army.

used toy stores are also really great places to find some vinyl gems. i found some old charlie brown records there- "a charlie brown christmas," (THAT'S my favorite!) and "you're the greatest charlie brown."

Every AC/DC album up to "Razor 's Edge" and it's Australian and Japanese pressing.
Rorschach-Remain Sedate
Every Bon Jovi album
Better Off Dead soundtrack
One Crazy Summer soundtrack
There are more but all my records are at home.

um... i think this thread is about finding cool MUSIC in thrifts stores, unless you actually found a recording of diarrhea in a child's training toilet at salvation army.

A HUGE stack of old jazz and blues 78's. I still have dreams of another find like that. There was some priceless stuff in there.

An unplayed Big Star #1 Record. DJ copy still in shrink wrap

I'd say about half of my 7000 LP collection came from thrift stores. The late 80's were a treasure trove with everyone getting rid of their vinyl for CD's

SUCKERS!!!!

it would have been a joke no matter what cool finds in thrift stores people were talking about. If you were talking about clothes, toys, furniture, or music I still would have said it because there is no way people would be talking about finding shit in weird places.

oooh - which one? If it's one of the early ones (like the first three albums) it can be quite valuable

The Sex Pistols on 8 Track is worth like a hundred bucks

Dear Prudence

You should well know that all the bay area thrift stores merch is well picked over before it even leaves the distribution center!

I knew a guy who worked at the distribution center in Healdsburg. He had the BEST record collection I have ever seen. It almost made me cry.

yeah, i already knew that. then, after that, they get picked clean by the store workers. a friend of mine used to work at a salvation army, and had a pretty admirable record, clothing, and bric-a-brac collection but, fortunately for people like us, most employees of major thrift store chains don't have nearly as good taste...

oh, yeah, i didn't even thing about this- my Granddad's attic. not technically a thrift store, but the coolest 'vintage' stuff i own came from there.

musical related items include: a stack of original Beatles trading cards. my aunt patty wrote her name on all of the back of them, decreasing their value, but it's still a pretty cool thing to own! some are in B&W, some are in color; the color ones include little mini-bio's on the back for all of the teeny boppers. like, 'what's paul's favorite colour?' also some Beatles song books and sheet music, which probably isn't worth anything, but i still like to have them.

this has nothing to do with music, but i'm still proud to have found some 'vote for kennedy' paraphanalia there, including a pamphlet, a button, and a bumpersticker that has never been used.

also, the COOLEST 60's mod-wear i've ever found came from there! they were all made by my aunt liana, who's my favorite aunt, and just happens to live in portlandia biggrin
