I know this place has alot of metal and hardcore fans. But, on the complete opposite end of the musical spectrum, was curious if there were any indie-pop (or Twee) fans out there?

Anyone like bands like Heavenly, Tiger Trap, Go Salior, Beat Happening, Dub Narcotic Sound System, the Softies, etc?

Nothing brings a smile to my face quite like the lo-fi stylings of overly cute, upbeat pop, like Lois or Boyracer...

beat happening's fun... i saw calvin johnson last year at the union.

at one point, he asked if anybody had questions, and one of my friends put up his hand and said, "jetsons or flintstones!" he then spent a good 10 minutes going into why he preferred the flintstones. it was great.

I have a 'Belle and Sebestian' CD, and I listen to it from time to time as well.
But don't tell anyone... OK? wink

Actually, they seem to represent this sort of "ambitious" indie-pop movement... less primitive and lo-fi, but still carrying the same feel and style. So, YEAH! Great band, too... biggrin

I feel sad that a lot of the indiepop bands I used to love are turning into these weird, Dylan-inspired alt-country bands- the Mendoza Line, Of Montreal- or pointless rock like that newest Delgados album. Then I think about Figurine and try to ignore the fact that one of them was responsible for inflicting even! more! Ben! Gibbard! on us. Some truly great pop groups have gone too far with their self-indulgence.

But Momus is still a perv and the second coming of Boyracer is upon us, so I don't need to think about that anymore.

Bump.

So, it turns out that the next Delgados record (out in October, I think) is amazing, more like the Great Eastern than Hate, and Boyracer is putting out four things this year. LTM just announced they're reissuing most of the Field Mice catalog and Cinerama finally went back to being the Wedding Present. If 2003 wasn't a good year for indiepop, then certainly late 2004 and 2005 will be.

dub narcotic indie pop? i admit i've never bothered listening to their records, but i've seen them twice and they're completely loud and obnoxious live.

but i like the aislers set, carissa's wierd, the thermals, fruit bats, and the E6 bands of course.. the stuff is okay in small doses.

By default, any band featuring Calvin Johnson has got to be indiepop, methinks.

the clientele, pipas, gary olson, the happy couple, action biker...

um. radio dept, comet gain?

the off-note singing gets really annoying, though, with most indie/twee pop bands/singers.
