Abercrombie and Bitch

they wouldn't have that problem if they hired a bunch of suicide girls. then again, i doubt any of the SGs would want to work at such a stuffy, generic, crappy crap place.

well, keep in mind, el oso, that A&F is all about the brand, and that means they're less about selling a product than they are in selling an idea and image that people want to align themselves with. suicide girls operates under the same philosophy, except it's one you and i want to align ourselves with. it's a corporate colonization of the noosphere, y'all, which means one can't really criticize it happening in one area unless you're willing to attack it everywhere you see it - including here.

yes, but if it were fat people it would be against the law. that's considered a disability, while being ugly is just a fluke of nature. and who decides who is ugly? if i go into a&f and complain that an employee is unattractive will they get fired? whatever

Nice comparison. I agree that it's basically a mean policy, but what do you want? I do not understand why minorites are upset, since it seems like there should be plenty of room in A&F's look to include them too. I think they're going for upscale, not White and Proud.

A&F are the people who sold thongs made for pre-teens. Therefore, I hate them.

you know, i never even thought about it that way. you're absolutely right.

now this might be heading into sketchy territory, but does SG also operate under the same grounds? i mean, every model on the site is attractive, obviously. how many girls are denied because the site's operators don't think they are attractive enough to be picture nude on the site? what is the basis for who gets picked and who doesn't? i

t's kind of a different story here because i suppose as a model, the basic requirement is to be easy on the eyes. SG girls are great because they're all good-looking PLUS they all happen to be very cool. on the other hand, A&F employees are hired to sell clothes, not to look good.

Their hired to sell clothes and maintain the brand. This is like saying that SG's are hired to model for pictures, not look good.

Well they can't really sell "the look" unless they have "the look". Incidentally, i find "the look" absolutely hideous and repulsive.

I was "aligned with the look" when I got here. I was "aligned with the look" twenty years ago. Not all girls here have "the look". It's more about the mindset.

I don't shop there because I wouldn't be caught dead wearing any of that. And if I was dead and someone put that shit on me, I'd get up and kick their ass (well...or at least try to).

i'm sure every clothing store works this way, including the hip indie vintage shop in the local college district. the last time i went into the local "crossroads", there was a certain look and everyone had it. same with the diesel store, the gap, etc etc. the best reason to dislike a&f is because they promote bland fashion.

No one should be jerked around on the job though. If you can't give someone a shift because they don't look good, they should be informed of that fact, not fed bullshit about the work not being available. Most people work because they need to, so why fuck them around like that?

Agreed. This is the real issue.

Well i'm rather inclined to agree with Morgan's statement (first time ever i think). But i just can't stand the peole as a whole who wear nothing but A&F stuff and have this disturbing herd mentality and a disturbing fanatical devotion to "Dave" Mathews. Plus any brand that feels necessary to plaster their name on every square inch of their clothing suffers from insecurity i feel while also looking extremely gaudi. There's no need to be a walking billboard and if you want high end fashionable gear there are brands that don't put their name on EVERYTHING.

Just curious, but why did you put quotes around the Dave in Dave Mathews? Is that not his name?

Don't a lot of retail stores...or anywhere...show bias towards "attractive" people in the hiring process. I know the managers at my hotel, two guys and a girl...always make a comment about the appearance of an applicant when they discuss them...the guys are far more obnoxious about it, but one time they were talking about a really qualified guy and she said "but he's got acne scars and a huge ass!" I about died.

also let it be known...yes I DO own a A&F wool jacket, it's even in my profile pic...but I bought it used from a Buffalo Exchange in PDX for $18. so A&F got none of the money. I hate them. but I luver that jacket. please don't stone me to death for wearing it...at least...not with rocks.

if you want a laugh, flip through this month's issue of wallpaper. you'll find a blurb about the new prada designer wrench set. $400 for a set of wrenches. because they have the name "prada" printed on the handle.
