How does one type the Czech-accented C character on a Mac keyboard?

count:
The chances are you have figured it out since april or dont need it anymore but either way. Just add the czech to your "language and text" menu in top right corner switch your keybord to cz and then its under number 4.

Here's the method I found:

First
=======
Install the Czech keyboard under System Preferences (Not the Czech QWERTY keyboard. It will only do lower-case .

Then, whenever you want to type a
===============================
Click and hold on the Flag Icon in the upper right menu bar to reveal the keyboard selections.
Drag down and release over "Czech"
Type Shift+= (What would be a '+' symbol if you were still on standard American keyboard mode.)
The next character typed will be accented with a hacek.
Type 'c' or 'C'.
Done. Click and drag on the upper-right flag icon to restore your normal keyboard.

This is enough of a pain in the butt that I usually type the once, then copy-and-paste it as needed. tongue

Alternately, you can enable the "U.S. Extended" keyboard, swap to it the same way you would swap to the Czech keyboard, and type Option-v instead of Shift-x to ready the next character to receive a hacek. And there are shorter methods if you only want lower case .

This is a random rant, so be warned. Not that I have any problem with "any" language, but I'm taking a Czech 202 class and it is driving me crazy! I've heard that there are people who can get a different language like nothing and those who just don't do …

I chose Czech because my family is from that country. Also, many language classes at the University are insanely structured, so if you aren't keeping up, then you're sunk. My advisor suggested Czech because it is a small class, very laid back and rather slow going. So I guess you could say I lucked out. Mostly I wanted to vent this because my teacher refused to accept my latest 10 sentence assignment because it was so badly written! I'll try better next time, *catches breath*

One needs motivation to learn a language. I don't mean to be rude, but it sounds like you were not terribly interested in learning Czech to begin with. Finding a good practical application is a good thing; it need not necessarily mean living in the Czech republic, but perhaps just reading a novel in its original form or wooing some Czech-American crush.

Heh, when I was in Prague I picked up a tourist map of the city that also came with a short phrase book. Here is one dubious selection; a prize for the first person who figures out what it means (shame it's in the English phonetic version; all the more challenging, I suppose):
"Pro seam vass, mou who poHlad eat vashe Prr-del-kuu?"

Budejovivky is a Czech beer, the OG Budweiser, but Budweiser didn't like that and stopped them selling the beer for a bit. Imperialisation is wonderful isn't it! The Czech version is better, in fact a really tasty Pilsner made in the traditional style unlike the watery swerage run-off Budweiser resembles...And now we can buy it in NZ as DB are importing it. Not 'importing' it....
