Okay, so Monday at work they took my shift away for Tuesday and told me that I MUST go to the Chuck Palahniuk book signing since he is one of my all time favorite authors. I wasn't feeling too hot, but I did really want to go so I took it as a sign and booked a hotel room down in Ann Arbor so I could camp out the next morning to be able to meet Chuck.
We got up at six the next morning, mostly due to sleeping like poop. John and I were both more sick at this point and the two hour camping session felt a lot more like twelve hours. We got our wristbands to be able to get our books personalized and then headed back to the hotel room to check out and get something to eat. John got a wristband also so that he would be able to get books signed for my mom since she couldn't come and he is her favorite author.
We ended up sleeping for a little while at a rest area off the highway since we were still tired as hell and we had some lunch and did some shopping. Once that was all said and done, we headed back up to the Borders so that we could get some seats for the Interview and Q&A. They showed a preview for the new Choke movie which was really cool, even though I could only hear the dialog. We were sitting in a spot where we couldn't see the televisions so we just had to picture it in our heads. He also read an unpublished short story which was really awesome.
Then we waited in line some more to get our books signed. I was so sick by the time I got up there that I couldn't really say anything. I tried to stand a little ways back from him as not to get him sick also. He was really nice though and gave us something special for my mom when John said that his books were for her and that he is her favorite author. He even signed her copy of rant "Best Mom Ever" which I'm pretty sure is going to make her cry when she sees it.
I'm pretty sure that I have pnemonia now, but it was seriously worth it. I've barely been able to move from my bed, to the couch, to the computer but it was all completely worth it for yesterday. I sent Dan a text calling him "Best boss ever!" for making me shirk my work responsibilities and go.
