Put the 14-year-old on a bus to Kilarney to connect with a tall ship which is going to take him through Lakes Huron, St. Clair, Erie and Ontario, where 10 days from now I pick him up in the port of Toronto. He did not want to go, but was resigned to the inevitable. We're hoping the experience where he has to work with 26 other kids roughly his age to make the ship go will teach him a little respect and understanding of other people. We hope his self-esteem will go from zero to something a little higher. I am scared that this whole thing could backfire and he'll have greater angst towards us. The references we got from a whole host of parents who's kids were "sent" on this thing were however glowing as how the experience changed their kids for the better.

Kidding. All the kids I know that experienced this kind of things did well.
