LOL! I do so love starting a journal entry off with funny...
So Afghanistan continues to be cold. Apparently this is the worst winter they've had in 15 years.
I've recently received the official offer contract from the company about to take over security here for the embassy. Technically I get a raise in salary, but the quarterly bonuses are going to stop. So in the long run, a pay cut...
On top of that, the rotation schedule for vacation will change to 105 days here and 35 off. Unpaid, which is not currently the case. Not a bid deal though. Hell, we're only 2 months into 2012 and I've already pulled in over $20K! Which will be going toward the down payment on a new
Tonight while on shift at the embassy we got a little training in with the guys from BLACKWATER. It meant my team and I got screwed out of our break time, but considering all we do all night is sit in our gun truck, the whole night is a big break. And it was actually some fun stuff we got to do; Close Quarters Battle and room clearing. I even "killed" our make believe bad guy and got kudos on technique afterward.
Strained my knee trying to pick up my 300+ pound team leader after he got killed though...
I've been having family, my father in particular, emailing and messaging me asking if I'm OK over here. Apparently the news has been portraying event over here far grimmer than reality. Things are relatively quiet here, in Kabul anyway, since the Kuran/Quran (however the fuck it's spelled) burning incident. Which I got the real story on and it wasn't out of malice.
I think I'll end this post with some funny too...
Edit:
Thinking about going to this.
I get back into the US that very same day and it looks like it'll be fun. Won't be but a quick detour on the way home to FL.
Military, or?
Been starting to log back on here more often...glad to see you're doing well and having fun. I'll try to keep more of an appearence around here.
