Parents can be anything but easy to get along with. It's a lot easier to forgive their flaws if it becomes evident that they had good intentions and were motivated by love. It's sometimes amazing how how abusive parents can be when they're trying to be helpful, as they see it.

We can all learn some improved communication skills and set people off less frequently as time goes by, so things will probably improve in the future. If your mother has a shred of normalcy then being away from you will be very painful for her. Good luck.
