Well... manager left today... to Rhode Island. He made a statement before he left the station this morning. He gave his pager to me. I have a cell phone. "Take care of my station." Well, i'll certainly try, but i've never had so much responsibility at a job before. I know it's just a gas station and all, but i've been there since November. Longest i've ever stayed anywhere since i left Denny's with 2 1/2 years under my belt 3 years ago. It's nothing to settle for, but i really kinda do enjoy my job and Mike (the absentee manager) is the best manager i've had. He buys me breakfast every now and again when i come in to work 1st shift (i HATE mornings), and sometimes he'll buy me a 1 liter. His wife Susan bakes me cookies, and when i work holidays they bring me homemade dinner. He's super fair, and i never feel like he's coming down on me because he always tells me how much he appreciates what i do, even when i fuck up. I can wear my lip piercing, i can wear my street clothes, i can play my music, i can dread my hair. I don't HAVE to like the people i work with because technically i never work WITH them. It's one of those little boxes with a register, cigs and a lottery machine that's only big enough for one person to work at a time. I do like the other people who work there though. I get to read a lot, and there's a megaton of really sweet regulars whose brands of smokes i have memorized and families who i know and i can say "hey, your dad was just here, camel lights? 3.47." I'm not usually into the quaint comfort of an environment like that, but it's kinda nice.
But jesus... 12 days in a row at 4am. I'm gonna die
But at least i get paid time and a half. It's going to be nice to have money.
