So, that super nerd over there is me. Yes, my head was shaved. Yes, I looked like a teenage boy.
This picture was taken in 2007, in Pernambuco, when I received a gold medal for my score in a brazilian math olympiad. I won the medal, a certificate and an all-expenses-paid trip to Recife. It was nice and some schools called me after that to offer scholarships, etc., but nothing really interesting came up.
I went on with my life, started studying music, teaching, singing, until I decided to get back to my nerd life this year and started studying Mathematics.
Yesterday, I was reading an online newspaper and there was a feature about the medalists of this year's olympiad, saying they had won scholarships to participate in undergratuate scientific initiations (I have no idea how "Iniciação Científica" is in English. I just used Google. I don't know if there are similar programs in other countries...). So I sent some e-mails, asking around if I could apply.
Today, I've got an answer, saying that I'm eligible for the scholarship and that I should send my application for next year. They also said I should try Ciências sem Fronteiras (Science without Borders), another scholarship program, for brazilians to study abroad. And that's what I'm going to do :)
I'll probably only get it for 2016, but it's nice to make plans. I was very unsure about my future, but now I'm feeling hopeful and excited. Maybe it's not too late for me :)
