Science and Human Compassion ('charity'), by Picasso (aged 16).
Maybe science is cold, maybe it isn't. Maybe religion is loving, maybe it isn't. But whatever your individual feelings about doctors and nuns and such, can there be any doubt among those with at least half a heart and half a brain that compassion is more health-giving than the mechanistic approach to medicine?
Sometimes just one touch, one sympathetic, loving hand on the shoulder from someone you love and respect, can fill you with warmth and life, and give you years of good feeling, years of well-being; it can be a well to constantly draw from. Kindness is good.

And sometimes that touch just fills you with relief because it's been so long since someone touched you and really, that's all you needed. ;-) Love your thoughts JackW.

Nothing historical, just the weird turnings of a mind under lots of stress and sleep deprivation. I took a fancy to the word Marquis and ran with it
