***For those who don't have my myspace***
.Baby strollers as bulldozers.
That time of year has passed us once again. And we just barely managed to survive. You know what I'm talking about...Thanksgiving, 'Black Friday', Christmas, Hanukkah, etc. Whoops, 'god' forbid I leave out some other holiday. So, I suppose I should include Kwanza as well? How about Festivus?
Did anyone notice the abundance of caution used by people when referring to any specific holiday this season? There are at least twenty individuals I can think back about who hesitated when they went to mouth the words 'Merry Christmas' to me. Are there really people out there who are offended by that?
"Hey Buddy...Merry Christmas"...
"Hi, fuck you, I'm Jewish".
I mean...would that really happen?
People are becoming so overwhelmingly self-censored [and self-centered]. They're so concerned about fitting in, and not being at the receiving end of a dirty look or even a friendly correction. Most people will blame it on a fear of hurting someone elses feelings. But most likely, it's a fear of looking like an asshole.
And at the same time...many people seem to overcome this fear at the most convenient of times, and put on an excellent display of what the word 'asshole' really means. There are some examples out there that seem to be universal, no matter where you are. Think about it...
[The Outward Asshole]
...it's Sunday, you're driving down a street where there's a large church located on the corner. Sunday mass has just let out. You're at a stop sign where there are two cars in the intersection, (both with small stickers on their bumpers bearing some form of 'Jesus loves you' phrase), not allowing each other to go. Meanwhile there's a couple, with a small baby in their hands, attempting to cross the street. You watch while faces turn red and various hand signals are exchanged (you know what I'm talking about if you're from jersey). Then you come to realize...all of these people just came out of the same church, and probably do this every week.
[The Inward Asshole]
...it's now Monday morning. You're on the bus/train on your way to work. Tightly packed along with 86 other passengers, there's not much room to move. A group of three young, hispanic males enter the area. Every white woman in the area clutches their purse a little tighter. The three suit-and-tie wall-street junkies promptly end their joke about 'a black guy and a spanish guy are in a car, who's driving?'.
I can go day by day, and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. The actions of individuals making them out to be tremendous, bumbling idiots. Who would you rather be around though?
The mother using her baby stroller as a bulldozer to get through a crowded mall...is she being a total bitch (a.k.a.- an outward asshole)? Sure. Would I like smack her around a little? Yeah, it would be nice. But I'd rather be her, than the person putting up a facade pretending not to care. Say something. Tell her she's a bitch. Hey, you never know. She may not realize it. You just may be doing her a favor that will change her life.
Merry Christmas.
