s I gape at the images from the Gulf Coast, especially the chaos and anarchy that is consuming New Orleans, I keep thinking that we need to send the National Guard and the military there to impose order.

Then I remember they are all busy doing that in Iraq.

The National Guard is supposed to be our resource for a rainy day when things don't...

Detox - Day 3

Weight: 233
BF: 27

I am back among the living. Although I must admit we cheated a bit. I would not say we fell off the wagon, but we dangled off the side a bit.

Last night I could not stand my headache anymore so I took some asprin. It helped, a little - enough to get me to sleep. Hemlock...

Detox - Day 2

Weight: 232.6 pounds
BF: 25 %

I am in pain. So is Hemlock.

We are dealing with some really bad headaches. Mine seems to shoot up my neck and up and around over the top of my skull. Hemlock's is a throbbing one which gets worse if she moves around.

Although the rules don't allow it, I am seriously tempted to...

keep at it! in a week you'll feel so healthy you won't even know what hit you. i know how hard it is to kick caffine though, i've been trying to break my diet soda addiction for a while now because my dentist tells me the acid in it is destroying my teeth. even though i cry every time i get a filling (mostly because i have a small mouth and its like torture when they stick the adult sized instruments in it) i still get wicked cravings for it. i'm trying to stick to more natural stuff like teas and fizzy water, but it ain't easy. maybe we should start a support group!! wink

Good luck!

I know a legitimate massage therapist socially who is rumored to be good at it, although I can't speak firsthand.

Detox

Day One
Weight: 236 pounds
Body Fat 25 percent (according to our crappy scale, which I don't trust one bit).

Breakfast: Lemon juice in hot water, fruit shake with rice protein powder and flax.

Snack: Fruit shake, mint blend tea

Lunch: Brown rice, brocolli rabe with tumeric and garlic, vegetable broth, carrot juice, and a mango.

Thoughts: It is strange going from eating for...

oh man, changing your eating habits can be such hard work. kudos to you for doing it!!!!!

is this some kind of a "special" diet?
just make sure you get enough protien. not getting enough may be why you feel dizzy. drink lots of water and eat when you are hungry. i've been dieting for longer than i care to admit, and i don't trust a diet that makes you restrict certian food groups. a diet that does not allow for a lean cut of fish or wobbly bit of bean curd or occasional dairy treat or bowl of pasta is no friend of mine! if you have to deprive your body to get results, it generally doesn't end up lasting. take it from someone who knows and learned the hard way... many times.

i don't mean to butt in. i'm an italian momma at heart. when people change their eating habits, i get worried. than i end up putting my two cents in. i'll stop now.

The interview was draining. I don't like interviews and I particularly don't like them in the summer when it is hot. I decided against dressing up - I wore a guayabera instead.

I think the interview itself went well and I think they were desperate to get someone to teach this class in the fall. However, the course is scheduled for the exact same time...

I have an interview at MIT tomorrow. eeek

I don't like interviews.

I could use the extra money and the experience.

I hope it goes well...if I can find my way. MIT is like a maze...a cruel joke by those enginiering geniuses.

Bon courage!

If you really want to irritate someone (now why would anyone want to do that?), send them something registered mail at a time you know they are busy and won't be home very much.

We recently got a slip in our mailbox that said something to the tune of: Sorry we missed you, you have a registered envelope. You can either pick it up at...

On the Agenda:

1. I sent my defense into the Town of Brookline today. It is nice that you can do it via mail.
2. I spent about half an hour on the phone today with my old phone company trying to get them to stop charging me a trivial amount of money. I cancelled my service in Washington on June 6. In the process...

I apologize. I didn't know.
I don't find Zen/Tao embarassing, which is how I fill a lot of my time now (when I'm not playing counting games similar to boundcreature's)

What had started as an uninspired day took a turn for the annoying and frustrating this afternoon. While I was out running some errands I got a parking ticket in the City of Brookline, MA for an "upaid meter."

Now I am willing to pay my dues when I make a mistake, but in this case it is hard to understand how I could get...

There seems to be peace among the dogs.

They are not quite friends yet, more like roommates - roommates that are unsure of whether they like each other or not.

After a lovely weekend, the nasty and humid weather is back. Maybe it is for the best. Tomorrow I intend to barricade myself in my a/ced home office and get some of my work done....

Did you shave for heat avoidance?

Lance Armstrong isn't particularly well liked here, but everyone knew he was going to win and so I don't think his actual winning had much further effect. From anecdotal evidence, there's a general mix of grudging respect for him as an athlete and relief that he's retiring so someone else (i.e., a French person) can win.

Wonderful meeting you yesterday. Had no idea you were a member until I read Hemlock's post today.

Boo for humid weather.

Keeping the peace between two dogs is keeping me busy.
The tally so far has been:

1 accident
1 run away scare
Various scuffles/growls
1 attempt at play
Lots of naps (for the dogs)
1 middle of the night need to go outside

I would say that things are going smoothly, all things considered.

We need to start working with some basic commands. It is...

I'd imagine that is similar to a woman trying to control a man with sex who is entirely disinterested in sex?

Only one middle of the night need to go outside? My dogs somehow trained themselves to think that 2am is the ideal time to wake me up to go out.

We got our new puppy [go to hemlock's to see a picture of her].

Now the challenge is to keep peace between the new and established dogs until they figure out the new situation and they get used to each other.

Now its hot whereas yesterday it was cool and two days ago it was cold. Boston has the weirdest weather. It can't make up...

Good luck with your peacekeeping mission!

As to your question the other day, the reaction to the Olympics announcement was disappointment and naturally radio-call-in-show conspiracy-theorizing about the "Anglo-Saxons" and cover stories about how everything was going well for Tony Blair.

Then the next day, the usual sympathy you would expect, as far as I could tell.

However, I didn't have any direct personal conversations with anyone on either topic.
