Well...Happy New Year, everybody!
I wish us all a fresh, new start this year. I know I'm going to be trying to overhaul my life. 2007 was a disaster, and at least now I can use past tense. Now I just need to keep up momentum to ensure that I keep moving forward and making progress. Granted, I'll still be in Baghdad until April, but as long as I keep structurizing and preparing my projects while I'm here, all I have to is execute when I get back to Bragg. I'm actually really excited. And I've been feeling a lot better lately without my meds. I haven't been flipping out as much and feel a lot more like myself. It was getting real bad for a while. My superiors gave me a week long time out because they were fed up with my insubordination. Kind of funny, but dangerous. I don't have a whole lot of slack to spare, I've been getting in a lot of trouble this past year for barking up to my superiors. Oh well, just have to watch myself for 3 or 4 more months. After that I'll never have to deal with these people again, well, not these particular ones anyway. There's always plenty of arrogant, self-righteous pricks in the army though, not matter where you go.
I actually had a great day yesterday. I finally got some range time on an AK 47. I know, sounds mundane, but I've been looking forward to shooting an AK forever. Yesterday I got sick of waiting, so I arranged some AKs for myself and some of my valued associates, got them from one of my Iraqi colleagues. It was a great time. Most of the weapons I've fired in full auto are belt-fed machine guns, firing a little rifle in full auto is quite different. And the kick from an AK is so much more satisfying in a way than our wimpy little M4s. It was a lot of fun all around, and I'm definitely buying one when I get back. 7.62x39 is a lot cheaper than most other high power rifle ammo, so there are a lot of advantages to owning an AK.
Also got to shoot my mossberg 12ga and a glock19, but that's not really anything special. Either way I need the practice though, my pistol marksmanship has gotten awful.
And Baghdad was actually pretty cheerful last night. Everyone was out celebrating and partying (except for us >
