Remembering The Game : The 40 Week 8 Round Up/Update [T40W08RU/U]
I haven't gamed/rp'd in MANY years - and never with any group for any length of time (the longest, I think, a couple months?)
BUT I enjoyed those few-and-far-between times nonetheless
...though I'm quite certain my fellow players and gamemasters found me a nuisance, albeit perhaps a creative one?
one of my favourite moments in "rp history" was when another player and I accidentally created "pun-nelling damage"
we had everybody in the room laughing so hard with the puns, that the GM started having us roll...
and we ended up killing an entire bar full of NPCs - a complete and total slaughter via puns!
my favourite characters tended to begin in one group of rp'ers and would find their way into other groups.
( mostly for ease of not having to create a new character, as I tend to be time-consumingly addled in that department, taking too long for most gamer and GMs tastes alike )
...to gamemaster and fellow players annoyance, my characters ALWAYS had quirks - or I would develop/infuse them as gametime passed
but - hey - as an individual that's been considered weird, strange, unusual, and - yes - quirky, the people who know me tend to expect it.
( even if they have a deep desire that I'll be somewhat "normal" for a change - or, at least, "normal" for their rp environment )
here are a few examples of favourite characters that'd spanned multiple rp groups, "rekindling" their presences in other/similar worlds...
the D&D-styled tinker gnome with an impossible-to-pronounce-the-same-twice name and a mustache that he could tie back into a "ponytail."
was being very, very, VERY slowly chased by a castle-sized "suit-of-armour" that had gotten a bit out of hand in its creation.
I made this part of his every background - thankfully was it was heavy as a castle and could only move inches a month - a slow chase, indeed.
the "animated" man (think Frankenstein-type-creation) with a severe psychological/nigh-psychotic reaction to wearing shirts.
he had no problem with trenchcoats/jackets worn unbuttoned, but a shirt?! you'd have to sedate him somehow... if possible.
he was, however, a very skilled singer and this quirk became more a part of his "rock star eclecticism" as time passed.
the future version of myself that had become excessively paranoid... and couldn't be killed by anything on purpose.
accidentally, yes - which DID happen to happen a few times (yay for unlikely resurrections!) - but purposefully I was effectively "immortal."
the GMs were usually skilled enough to find a way to "damage" me, most often due to unfortunately dangerous environments.
the B-movie "star" who'd become a below-below-average jack-of-all-trades from multiple roles... yet thought himself well-skilled.
if a skill set went up to 10, he'd have nothing above 3 - if up to 100, nothing above 30... basic "comedy relief," and I admit - I loved it!
sometimes he'd luck out and succeed a time or two when attempting something, but I never was a lucky dice-roller.
there were other offbeat characters I played, but never made it further than one particular adventure...
( though a GMs was nice enough to ask if they could use the half-ogre/giant as an NPC in the future )
the backwoods-planet stowaway on a starship with pet "fuzzy eep" : a tribble-esque fuzzball one moment, a rolling ball of teeth the next.
annoying, whiny, and a seeming magnet for intergalactic trouble - just like Luke Skywalker in the first portion of Star Wars.
the unusually intelligent half-ogre/giant whose intelligence was a secret shame and was adept at using cantrips in dangerously prankish ways.
through an unusual (and as yet unexplained) twist of fate, he was once able to swing a large axe over his head... within a 6ft circular tunnel.
