I was born with scoliosis. I was told I would need corrective surgery, and it was planned for when I was 12. Sadly, my scoliosis worsened worse than expected, and I underwent the knife when 7 and 8. I was in a body cast for 6 months, flat on my back, and about 3 hours from all my friends and family. My parents came down every weekend, so it was a lonely time during the week for a young boy. But I had a radio, so I listened to a lot of music. Two songs stick with me from that time and always bring me back to that time. Afternoon Delight, by the Starland Vocal Group, and Alone Again, Naturally, by Gilbert O'sullivan. One more upbeat and one very mournful.
