Last week Canadians went to the polls and elected a new government. It was a proud moment. After 10 years of ugly right-wing rule, Canada has once again shifted to the left.
The day before the election I joined my favourite Vancouver Suicide Girl – @stormyent – and took photos of an election protest she organized. The event involved her and several other women standing topless on street corners holding up signs espousing important election issues.
And really it was an election of issues. Last night I heard some Conservative pundit on TV talking about how they lost the election because the campaign was too negative. Idiot. They lost because 10 years of awful policies and agenda finally hit a breaking point and Canadians were tired of it.
Also, the youth finally came out and voted. Voter turnout was 68.5%, about 8% higher than the last election and the highest turnout since 1993. It's because the youth, who rarely vote, got their shit together and spoke their mind.
Before the election I was a cynic, convinced the Conservatives were going to win again. Now I have renewed faith and hope in my country.
