I just re-watched Star Wars Episode III (as much of it as I could stand) and then followed it up with Episode IV, and I gotta say... is it just me, or was the old Star Wars better?
Of course we know the story was better (that's why they made the middle episodes first), but I mean from a special effects perspective. It just seems to me the old school models and miniatures, costumes, makeup and effects look so much more real and vivid and grittier than the modern computer animation, which seems to dominate everything.
Some of the old school stuff looks bad – like that creature under Jabba's throne – but most of it looks really good. Chewbacca looks real. Boba Fett looks real. Jar Jar Binks looks like an awful cartoon. Am I wrong or do you agree?
