Holy shit, I'm actually doing this on Sunday night instead 4-10 days from now. I credit doing my laundry, which I'm doing right now only because I have literally nothing I can wear to work. I'd much rather be sleeping.
This week was pretty much all about getting ready for Dark Side of the Con 3 and then actually going to the con.
While getting to the my hotel in Parsippany was quite arduous, especially getting off at the wrong place and having to walk three miles on a road with no sidewalk, the rest of Friday was great. I had a great time watching Ego Likeness and Bella Morte, as well as listening to Stabbing Westward perform while I sat all the way in the back. After the bands I left feeling really satisfied with the first day.
Saturday was less enchanting. There weren't any bands I really wanted to see playing so I didn't feel much incentive to leave the comfort of my hotel room. It didn't help that I was staying in a hotel a mile away from the con hotel, so I wouldn't be able to easily return to my room to recharge, so I rationalized that the longer I put it off the later I would be able to stay out.
I ended up only staying at con a few hours on Saturday, finding myself quite bored and lonely until eventually my brain weasels just got to be too much. I went back to my hotel room and just went to sleep until I got up Sunday morning, checked out of my hotel, and hopped the bus back to NYC. There was no way I was going to try to attend con Sunday with my heavy ass backpack in tow.
Friday did make the whole experience worthwhile, and a lot of the problems I had would have been avoided if I'd known from the start what I know now. If, by chance, I am still living in New York when the next one comes around then I fully intend to return better prepared.
