So I just finished watching Thumbsucker. It was, well... pretty good. I enjoyed the movie's low-key feel. The way the movie was sold was wholly inaccurate, but I didn't get disappointed by where it went and how it got to those points. I did feel the ending slightly copped out to be happy, but that in itself didn't tear the film apart.
Have I mentioned I love the new Flaming Lips single? "The Wand". Loud, psychadelic, but not unlike Queen.
First Impressions of Earth refuses to leave my CD player. Sure, it's only been out three weeks, but I still go through it at least once a day. I'm finding new sounds, new melodies, bits and pieces that didn't seem to be there the day before. I've fallen in love with "Juicebox" again about five times already. And I don't think I could ever hate "Red Light", if just for the line "let's say you made a deal with me/and I got your name and your home address/but you're all trashed up/with your big red belt/and you could say you might need help".
And, I mean -- when your outtakes are as amazing as "Hawaii", the b-side to "Juicebox" -- it's like you'd kiss the guys. If you were gay. And weren't afraid of them kissing back out of habit (yes, around the first album, the band made it a sign of masculinity amongst each other to be rough kissers... to each other). Of course, I think they recorded the song because they want Sufjan Stevens to cover it eventually when he reaches that particular album in his 50 States Project.
Word of the warning to Munich watchers: the movie does give you emotional drainage. Severe emotional drainage. Even on the second viewing, you're left as a heap of sad by the movie's end.
Good glorious Jeremiah Halliburton Christensen, I need cigarettes. I think I'll get some now.
... Who the FUCK is Jeremiah Halliburton Christensen?
