So Match Point and Munich were both ridiculously good films of the utmost degree. Match Point is perhaps the farthest I've ever seen Woody Allen stray from himself -- a black-comedy laden drama of love, deceit and pain that just felt like a new world had opened up for the Woodman, one called London. Scarlett = sexy. Especially here, in this movie. And the ending is about as fucked-up as could be, given the setup. And seeing the mom from Shaun of The Dead and the guy from Trainspotting playing in a Woody Allen movie was, in a word, awesome.
Munich: the first movie to make me sweat, make me jump, make me afraid of the world in a long, long time. This is Spielberg's best film, filled with echoes of self-destruction and pain from the deepest reaches of a person. Eric Bana, Daniel Craig... everyone. All amazing. It's the best spy movie in years, the best action movie Steven's ever done, and as darthspielberg put it, "the goriest and sexiest movie he's ever made". It's a crunch of pure cinema, two-and-a-half hours that blew me away.
Yeah.
It was a good day.
