OK, so I've been doing things a little differently for the past week or two. I'm finalising the last of my forms to leave college! I know it sounds like a bad thing, but I can almost feel the stress melting away. So for the past few days I've been focusing a lot on my new Penpal letters. Written five out of twelve, 20 pages total! I don't do creativity very well, but I have an uncontrollable writing urge. I've no ideas on how to design fancy cards and stuff, so, for the minute, they're only being written on ordinary A4 pages, and being posted in plain envelopes. I've got a few stickers, and something to fancy up the envelopes a little, but for the time being I'm sticking with what I know how to do: write letters. I might branch out to notes and postcards, but not right now
Since I left college, everything's getting easier. Slowly, gradually, but without the weight, I can make more sense of things. Something about it just lets my brain expand again. I don't know if that makes sense... Like being let out of a box, I suppose. It's only a little bit of the way in, but the break is letting me breathe again, somewhat. Haha, listening to Pat Benatar's Heartbreaker at the minute. Might link it at the end.
I've found three new games that are amazing: Bayonetta, echochrome and Pixeljunk: Eden. I've been playing Pixeljunk and Bayonetta a good bit this past little while. Tried to get echochrome, was only able to get the demo, credit card junk that should be sorted out soon. I'm putting in videos of all three, just to give a taster of why I think they're cool.
Bayonetta: This is the age-old story of a divine battle between the forces of dark and light, except the roles are skewed. The glory of Heaven isn't all it's made out to be, and the Umbral Witches, representing the dark side, have almost been hunted to extinction. The preservers of the balance. That's all in the opening video
Very reminiscent of Devil May Cry. Fighting system, inventory, music all resemble Devil May Cry. The triple fighting style of guns, melee and magic is easy to grasp but difficult to master. It's got a film noir type backdrop. The local demonic weapon merchant working out of a speakeasy. Filled with the stink of cheap perfume, broken promises and some of the prettiest dames in all of the woild.
echochrome: Basically it's a game designed around M.C. Escher's drawings. The premise of reality being defined by what you can see. Not restricted to reality, but what the mind can perceive. Here, the trailer can explain much better...
Pixeljunk: Eden: This is a weird one. It's a hybrid of physics and nature. Using the conservation of angular momentum to collect quantum mechanical pollen to make your "flowers" bloom. It's a simple game, but completely addictive. In a good way.
Now for pictures and stuff. Some of the best ones I've found since I last blogged.
