Ok, so I've put together a quick idea of what my ultimate festival line-up would be - at least for today. There's a pretty good mix of styles and moods and the only requirement has been that it must be possible for the artist to perform. No dead folk on this one.

Antony and the Johnsons
The Arcade Fire
Blues Explosion
Bright Eyes
BRMC
CocoRosie
Converge
Death Cab for Cutie
Dillinger Escape Plan
Dirty Three
Einsteurzende Neubauten
Flaming Lips
Fugazi
Godspeed! You Black Emperor
Interpol
Isis
Low
Mars Volta
Mastodon
Melvins
Modest Mouse
Neurosis
Will Oldham
Portishead
Q and not U
Damien Rice
RFTC
Brian Setzer Orchestra
DJ Shadow
Shellac (I can dream)
Sigur Ros
Slint
Son Volt
Stooges (they're back!!!)
Tortoise
Uncle Tupelo (reunion show - hey, if Dinosaur Jr can do it!!)
Tom Waits
Gillian Welch
Wilco

...I could go on forever, but if the above line-up was announced I would most likely wet my pants.
phate1301:
Yeah...the Uncle Tupelo thing was just a dream. Though, I think if we put Farrar and Tweedy in a caged arena with an assortment of hand held weaponry, we'd have one hell of an 'ultimate fighting' style death match on our hands. Maybe that could be one of the smaller stages/tents.

I'd watch. wink

...and my money would be on Farrar

just miss out. oh well. i'm afraid if i told you my band name i'd have to kill you, but i'll be on tour with someone elses band who will be touring their debut album, which judging by their gebut ep sales and sold out tour will be huge....that is all i'm at a liberty of saying.

Just a quick note for all those people who like to romance the idea of snow. it was -3 in my house this morning. I ride to work and my fingers were blue, my ears hurt, my lungs hurt, then I had to splash around in water for a couple of hours. I wish I was in sunnier climbs

Lifes better,

Drove up over the center of tassie today, Through 4 inches of fresh powder snow. everything was white and it was -3 on the temp gauge. Picked up my 400 Atalantic Salmon for my experiment and brought them back to my tanks. Not one died and they are all happy listening to M Ward to Chill after there stressful day
morgannahh:
New job sux...its nearly over though...

As for new pics...its a shame i can't make a good living off them!

Ur so lucky to have snow. I've only seen it twice and it was, beautiful
phate1301:
Don't know shit about Salmon...but what I do know is, M Ward is the perfect ending to any trip, long or short... smile

Man, I wish I lived someplace where it snowed. I have the greatest memories of skiing and sledding when I was a teenager, but haven't been since then (almost 20 years!!)...maybe next winter.

I had a crap weekend,

My drum lesson was cancled, Architechture in smell stinky were really crap (bunch of private school prefects pretending to be cool) my camping wekend was cancled and my car broke down. So every thing is fucked right now.

just spent the last 5 days at sea. My sea legs are still going strong and I am feeling more sea sick tonight than when I was floating down the east coast.

Couped up with an all male crew really shows how much I enjoy female company.

Thank god for a Cd walk man and Rosmarys Baby (gotta love a book about satans spawn) to...

My mom lives on a boat. I'm not usually too keen on visiting her as I like solid ground.
I don't get sea sick, I just like being on land.

I'm good. Glad to hear you are alive and well.

I'm okay... still fluy tho....I love sea legs... dunno about the sea sick tho, don't get that myself...

Our Unnamed Rock band wrote another anthum last night, Suburbian and coke, poking fun at suburbia and all the that the suburbs hold dear. Anyone got any good names for a rock band, we cant find one we like for more than a hour.

Heading to sydney to sail down the east coat with my brother next week, should be good. I reckon I will...

Ok, newer stuff that's doing it for me...

If you're a lover of Will Oldham, M.Ward etc then give Antony and the Johnsons "I am a Bird Now" a whirl - nothing particularly like them but for the melancholy, somewhat dark musings...I hear strains of old Delta/country bluesmen like Skip James, Mississippi John Hurt etc mixed with Nina Simone...brilliantly moving stuff!! Also, Bright Eyes "I'm Wide Awake...", Damien Rice "O" (can't take it out of my player at the moment...awe inspiring!!)

For something with a little more shove to it, I've been listening to Mewithoutyou (hints of Shellac/Albini and maybe even a little Slint), Q and Not U (move from off kilter punk to electro laced punk that leans towards the funk-punk of old like A Certain Ratio, ESG etc), Th Arcade Fire (epic, sweeping, almost overblown, mutated pop in a Bowie kinda way), Sleater Kinney "The Woods" (whoaahh...angrier and denser than ever), Comets on Fire "Blue Cathedral" (overdriven wall-of-sound rock with a charging psychedelic feel), Yourcodenameis:milo (spazzed out indie with a splash of emo wailing)...

It's old, but only just re-issued...The Monks "Black Monk Time" (minimalist, at times Kraut Rock styled punk...and I don't mean punk like today - think elements of Can and Neu!)

D'ya like funk/soul?? Try Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings (authentic sounding and touring Oz)

Great old-school punk (ala Poison Idea) in the form of Paint it Black

And of course if you want to find some brutal hardcore/metal, check out the newies from each of these bands:
Norma Jean, Converge, Trivium, Mastodon...

I best go now...have rambled on long enough. Hope you find something that might take your interest. There's a million more I could suggest.
smile
morgannahh:
did you have fun in sydney last weekend?

Cold is over and Feeling back in black!

Wrote a rock anthem on the weekend called "getting lippy with the law"

Saw the wonderful Sin City.

Back at work and wished I was at home watching DVD's

I need to go see Sin City, everyone says it's good. I also heard there's alot of naked chics in it, is that true?
phate1301:
I've heard about that D3 show and all reports are the same as yours...stunning!

New stuff? Let me dwell on that one for a while. I've been on a bit of a 'old-timey' bender at the moment - bluegrass, hillbilly, mountain, mississippi delta, etc - so haven't been sourcing much new material. I'll give it thought and throw ya' some bones next time. smile

Psst...re. posting pictures. Make sure you pull up the properties of the full-size image, NOT the thumbnail that appears in your page when you first click on your individual pics folders...make sense??? That way, you get the full size image posted rather than the teensie weensie thumbnail version.
