How's everyone? All 12 of you. Sometimes I wonder if anyone reads this anyway. Oh well, it doesn't bother me either way.
I had a very interesting run-in today with an old schoolmate (damn, I'm getting old) of mine. It was a typical bullshit conversation starter that turned into some snippy comments that made me think for a bit and thought it would be worth sharing.
The dialogue:
Me: "Hey there [Identity Saved], how are you? Are you working here again this summer while school is out?"
[I.S.]: "Yup, sure am?" *heavy sigh*
Optimistic Me: "Ah, that's coo..."
[Pessimistic I.S.]: "No, no it's not. It's not at all."
Flabbergasted Me: *awkward chuckle*
[Condescending I.S.]: "So, I see you are here for another year huh?!"
Humble Me: "Yeah, just doing the joe-job thing and playing metal on the weekends."
[Belittling I.S.]: "Wow...I don't see how you do it..."
Then, she turned and walked away as if speaking to me slowed her down from something rather important. At first, I almost felt guilty for being a college dropout. Almost. After almost entertaining that guilt for about 45 seconds, I instantly felt empowered. That might seem like an odd emotion to feel from such a thing but I think it makes perfect sense. She is obviously bothered that I'm fine with my "lowly" position in life while she is displeased with her "exalted" existance. I'm not trying to sound self-righteous, but fuck, that is a stupid thing to feel.
In short, life is what you make it. If you don't like your position, then change it. Complaining and other cheap shots won't get you shit except a stink trail. Learn to love what you are, the road you are on, and the moment you are in. If you can't appreciate that much, there's no fucking point to working towards something.
I hope that doesn't come off preachy.
On a less personal note, check this shit. This dude has got some soul. Especially for a Kenny G look-alike:

You got it right there man. She is the one who isn't happy with things and she was taking it out on you a bit. Oh well, I'm off to watch the video up there.
