I think my computer has lost a bet with God... Whenever a problem arises, the only operable resolution seems to be reformatting and reinstallation of Win XP. For the past day and change, I've been assessing damage in what has evaporated into the digital ether. All of my Wednesday Night SGCT pics are one casuality. What exists in the group are what are left. Similarly with the Worcester Cabaret pics. Ho-hum...
Luckily, one thing I don't have to restore the painfully slow manual way is music! I backed up my 70 odd gigs of mp3's on a external drive which I'd loaned ElmCityDrunk. The last time this happened, it took me 5-6+ weeks to rip my collection. That doesn't include trips to the local libraries to track down the oddities they house there. SO thankfully, there'll be none of that.
Today I was able to dodge attending an autsim lecture in Greenwich which in and of itself, I have no problems with. The drive, the interruption of my time off as well as the fact that I have to attend another meeting tomorrow (my other day off) makes me prioritize my time away from work, in all of its forms. I'm still unsure of what my job's needs of me shall be over the Xmas weekend. I'll most likely be working a 14 hour day on Xmas eve with the following day off. The usual 12-14 hour Sunday will follow with some form of behavior damage control. Hopefully nothing too obnoxious.
My DSL and phoneline are back up after an SBC crew visited the pole across the street. In complaining about the problem Saturday morning, I discovered I was eligigble for rate and discount changes from them. I've been paying for services a la carte and the sheer cost has had me pondering switching to cell phone exclusivity and a cable modem. SBC offered a no-strings attached package deal w/ features I never bothered to sign up for in the past. So I'll be paying $20+ less a month and now have caller ID, etc. Not too shabby.
