Overtime achieved without too much incident... I even made it to work on time! Classy. ElmCityDrunk, GrumpyBear and myself went to visit Allied at his new job last night. People watched, threw out requests to the night's DJ and actually heard them! Happy to have any excuse to hangout with these folk. The only downer to the evening was the DUI checkpoint disguised as a pseudo-DOT worksite. Well at least it looked like one after a number of beers. My poor passengers were visibly mortified and perhaps that's not the best way to cap off the night. Granted, being hauled in wouldn't have done it either.
Tonight I worked with one of the house employees who's typically bad at his job - disengaged, shows up late, etc. For those in the know, this is the drunk guy. Anyhow, he was actually almost a pleasure to work with tonight. I was able to see a lot of the warm qualities that make him popular amonst the residents...joking around and chummy.
I stopped by my parents and did some bonding across the board... Gave a quick MS Excel tutorial to my step-dad, drank a cuppa tea w/ my mum and watched Pimp My Ride w/ The Boy whilst playing darts. In all liklihood, I'll probably be back there tomorrow to hook-up some stereo equipment and wash post-vacation laundry. Perhaps rent and rip Hero from Blockbuster.
I've had a hankering for finishing unpacking... I've been home since Tuesday and am still living out of unemptied suitcases. There's too many projects I'd care to sock away at home and all of them leave me with the same feeling. AP & I moved in almost exactly a year ago and I still consider myself not moved in. Unfortunate repeat readers here have no doubt heard me drone on about boxes and boxes of books, the odd crate of vinyl, clothes, coats and shit to store it in. At any given second, I want to loan titles to friends who'd fall equally in love with a particular author. Not likely to happen any time soon... I'm at the point where I'm willing to re-purchase shit I already own but don't have access to because it's in storage.
Well, it's 11pm and I think I may be productive before my better half walks through my back door. Time to pocket an iPod and crank some cheese metal or Vivaldi's Concerto for Mandolin, Strings and Organ. Oddly both are great for cleaning to. One for air guitar, one for feeling like an extra in The Paper Chase.

it sounds as though you are having a delightful time all around - hooray. i understand about the boxes thing, too. having moved as much as i have, i learned that unless i open every single box within 48 of landing, i will find unopened boxes every time i move again. cycle cycle cycle.
sending you love, mydear.
