AlienPrincess & I are back to New Haven w/ few problems & little affair... We got to Long Island Friday morning shortly before lunchtime. We got lost (#1 out of 8-12 times doing so) getting to the convention and we met up w/ AP's dad. The con itself was being held at SUNY Stonybrook and the hotel was over 45 min away (poor planning brainfart #4 out of 65). We farted around, got lunch, checked into the Holiday Inn and registered at the convention once it opened. We had originally planned attending their production of Rocky Horror but, decided against it - AP used to involved in such productions herself & both of us were beat when 9pm rolled around.
Saturday we started out early... Had planned to catch the con's shuttle from the hotel but, the schedules were horribly irregular so, we were forced to drive and get lost a couple more times (both to & from). We sat in on a couple of panel discussions ranging from Magical Realist fiction (Gab. Garcia Marquez, Lorca & the like) & Film Guilty Pleasures...both good. We had planned on going to a Manga blow-out dance it was cancelled w/o telling anyone! Luckily, there was a comic documentary being screened a few doors down so, isn't wasn't a total waste getting lost for the fourth and fifth time (that day) in order to get there. We're both planning not to attend next year... Just too poorly thought out, too spread out and irregularly marked/mapped and everyone was indifferent to common sensical help. I found some anime pins and buttons to litter my bag and was able to shack up w/ my hot girlfriend (and her recently shipped 'stuff') in a hotel for two days...things weren't too shabby.
An quick addition after the fact...Port Jefferson ferry! We had to take this from Bridgeport to Long Island. My experience in the past has been limited to the Staten Island ferry...a quick ride across prime NYC waters. This so blew that away! First off, you take your car. Granted, it was $50 each way but, it's a cheap or, not-so-cheap thrill. We initially scoped out an observation area off the main deck - nice quiet & full of picture windows. For the most part, we stayed above deck...up in the open air & left to ourselves. We figured out where all of the nooks and crannies were to keep out of the winds' way. One of us would grab white-knuckled onto the railing and slowly peer over the side... Lotsa white-foam crests, gulls and sea-green wake.
Hope your weekends are working out for the best... AP & I both have Monday off. I have to work a couple of hours both on Tues & Wed. Plans can certainly be made if any care to huddle over something...movie, hang-out, what-have-you...
A amendment to the previous entry... I was looking up costume design of stillsuits from Dune online. I struck on some fan parodies and this one takes the motherfucking cake!!! Oh... I nearly peed myself when I saw it!
