So...long time, no updates you say. I say, "You're right. For I've been a busy boy." Life at work has been good but frantic. Gone are the days where my co-workers and supervisors gingerly hand me assignments or are patient in wanting results. I've acclimated to the office's 'sink or swim' discourse on the human service world and have lived to tell the tale. Most of my work weeks have been easily 55 hours+. Easily evidenced in my lack of sleep and a rarely seen grumbling girlfriend. Easy to overlook in other details is the fact that I'm very happy there. Everyone loves me and the odd facts that I enjoy the work that I do and look forward to going there everyday.
Life outside of work has been pretty boring, for the most part... There was a debacle where CthuluLu and myself were without heat for these three past weeks. Normally I'm pretty easy going but, when it's snowing outside and I feel like I'll be able to see my breath standing in my kitchen, I'm going to be a real asshole to deal with over the phone. And, I was.
Over the summer, when the other tenants on our floor moved out, the gas company accidently knocked us off the grid. As we have free hot water (stove/oven connection, as well) in our lease, it was never noticed. I installed shrink-wrap insulation on all of our windows and other apartments' heat (plus a very warm fall) coasted us into late November. I blasted the heat one day, figured out what the problem was and started pestering the gas company. Two weeks later, I drag my rental agency into it and intersperse my rent check visit and phonecalls with reminders that CthuluLu's protective mother is a prominent local lawyer. Attitudes change and happily because of it, my feet are warm.
In other news, my iPod started acting very wonky again... There where a number of random reformattings, afternoons wasted reloading music only to have it somehow deleted by the next afternoon. I remembered that in my next repair visit to Best Buy, I was due to technically receive a replacement and proceeded to sabotage my faithful White Rectangle. Did my plan work..? Did I best the system and receive a brand new 30G iPod in it's place? No, I didn't.
Instead I received a brand new shiny black 60G at no extra cost!!! When I purchased my original model, it cost $399. That is the same price point for the new Black Rectangle and thus, it was an even trade. The only thing I'm forced to now do is buy all new accesories for it, as my trusty iTrip is wholly incompatible. I think I may get by somehow...
Well, today finds me dotting on an ill girlfriend and repair a friend's laptop. I'll try and visit as many neglected SG friends when possible, as soon as possible, likely this evening. Until then, friends...
