Three Rivers Lodge was a luxury hunting and fishing lodge built for high end clients. Located on 4200+ acres of pristine wilderness connecting to a national forest it is an ideal location. The main lodge, a 10,000 square foot mansion with its three story rectangular shape, sat atop a wooded hill overlooking world class fly fishing and a gateway to well managed western hunting to include elk, black bear and mule deer. The lodge was designed for only the extremely wealthy and its accommodations were in par. It included eight bedrooms each with two luxurious queen beds and bedding, each room had a Jacuzzi tub and jetted showers and satellite television. There is an open area on the main floor that included a stone fireplace, pool table, fully stocked wine bar, entertainment center with plasma television, computers, satellite internet, a gun room, a wine room, a pro shop. The list went on.
The front of the house is two story massive glass windows that overlook the river and surrounding forest. There is a stable, kennels, additional cabins on the property, equipment sheds; no expense was spared to ensure their clientele was comfortable. The entire lodge was located off a half mile private road from the county highway. It was self contained with its own generator, windmill, well, propane tanks and septic system. It even had cellar food stores. The place was perfect, but of course, it wasnt going to be empty.
The GPS told me when my final turn was a half mile away. It was still four hours to daylight so I had plenty of time. I killed the lights to the H1, put on the head mount for the PVS-7Bs , and drove the H1 off the road and into the woodline as far as I could from the main road. Some of the smaller trees under a few inches I was able to just push down and drive over, the under carriage of the vehicle completely protected by skid plates. On the bigger trees, the ones that I couldnt get past, I had to get out and manually chop down. I only got about 150 meters into the woodline but it was more then enough to hide the vehicle from the road. I camouflaged the Hummer as best as possible with the trees and branches I had knocked down along the way. I changed into my crye precision multicam fatigues, threw on my plate carrier, grabbed the Noveske .308 sniper rifle, popped open my sniper action packer and loaded my multicam Kifaru with the Swarovski spotting scope and ghillie suit and then headed off in the darkness towards the lodge. I marked the vehicle location on the Garmin 60csx and navigated towards the lodge. Though it was just under a half mile away, I have spent way too many nights lost in the woods to chance a rookie mistake.Fourty minutes later I was overlooking the house, concealed under a bush in my ghillie suit, with still over an hour of darkness left.
At 20x power looking through the Leupold Mark IV there wasnt much need to even break out the spotting scope. The large two story glass windows gave complete access to the front of the house. When morning broke I could tell that I was about 600 yards away. It would be a difficult shot with the .308 but not impossible if I had to make it. I wasnt worried though as I was there strictly for observation and the ghillie suit and natural cover would make me almost invisible to anyone except someone intentionally looking for me and trained appropriately. Even the sniper rifle and backpack had ghillie cover. A combination I had purchased several years earlier.
As the sun broke and the morning moved on I got a better feel for the occupants of the house.
