To my Canadian understanding, a caucus and primary are two different methods for determining the leader of a political party. For a caucus, all the voters must be present at each of the voting locations for their vote to count. With the caucus there are multiple rounds of voting, where candidates are eliminated from the ballot until one party gets a certain (I think 50) percent of the vote. So after each round, the supporters of the candidate who are still on the ballot must convince those supporters of candidates off the ballot to join them.
A primary works just like an election. Everyone gets one anonymous vote and the winner is that who receives either the most number of votes, or receives the most number votes in the most number of jurisdictions.
I know that there are a hell of a lot more detailed rules than that but that's the jist of it, I think.
