So, yesterday I visited the black cockatoo rehabilitation center which is just a short drive from my house, into the state forest.
I offered my assistance as a volunteer. I met the menagerie of beasties they have there. The 5 species of cockatoos, kangaroos, peacocks, mallee fowl, dingos, frogs, a swan, ducks...... all natives who either are there for rehabilitation and release, or are just freeloaders.
They are keen for me to help on Sundays, which is good for me.
Being breeding season for the large black cockatoos, the males get rather friendly. Too friendly at times. I almost got parrot raped by one of the overly friendly permanent residents there. They have a massive aviary which is interactive. Those birds are not shy.....
I have been asked if I would like to be a dingo walker...... pffft YES ! Of course !
Dingos even come in black. I did not know that until yesterday. This is where the black and tan Kelpie originated from.
Some pics, because pics are cool. These are just examples of the species that I will be working with.
This male is showing off how sexy he is........ or thinks he is..... by boofing himself up, and fanning his tail to show off his MAN BITS !!!!!!! True. For obvious reasons these are called red tailed black cockatoos.
A Carnaby cockatoo being awesome.
Baudins, which is almost exactly like a Carnaby, but not if you look closely.
Yeh, they are pretty big. Very docile too. I should trade in my corella for one !!!!!!
