Hoo's everyone? I hope you're all well! I think I ought to update slightly more regularly than I do, so here goes...
Thanks for the birthday wishes! It was a lovely small scale affair with a few choice friends and a crate or two of San Miguel and Corona! Got a beautiful KGB pocketwatch from someone I'm rapidly falling for in a big way. I feel really special! O_o#
I'm beginning to feel a bit of a 'visitor' to the site at times, rather than a 'member'. I guess I'm a little isolated and regulated by my work patterns, at the mo. Its dictating just how much time I feel like staring at a screen when I get back from work. Usually not very much. I'd rather flick through a book or magazine. Failing that, sleep's normally a pretty good option too.
It's quite some shock to the system to go from waking up at 11am, to waking at 5.30am. I just about manage to get into Manchester by 7.30. It's a bit of an arsehole, but until I get my motorbike fixed I have to put up with the tram... At least its pretty empty at that time of the morning. I feel entirely without guilt having my discman on super-loud
Extra-thanks are in order to the cool individuals who pop by this journal and comment! It's always nice to see a comment or two when I get in! I PROMISE to return the favour a little more frequently!
I've got a couple of rants to end this journal with... I'm not necessarily an ANGRY person, far from it. In fact it takes somthing pretty spectacular to get anything other than mild bemusement out of me. Peel Holdings, the lovely folks responsible for the Trafford Centre have incurred my wrath, this week:
A little background...
I live in a festering wasteland of marsh and unmanaged woodland between Manchester and Warrington. Its not picturesque, but it's tranquil and I like it. Two MAJOR waterways run parallel through it called the Bridgewater and Manchester Ship canals. Inbetween them is an ancient wood and a few houses. Peel Holdings own pretty much all of it, bar the bits with houses on it. Their plan is to sweep away 'Botany Bay Wood' as its known and put the largest horse-racing track in the British Isles on it. This is bad... It gives me shivers to think what horrible things are going to happen to the lovely woodland I walk and cycle in. I don't like change and short of drop kicking my house to Neptune I can't think of a bigger one. My house will be on one of the major thoroughfares to the main pavilion...
It currently looks like THIS...
It's all down to Salford council to listen to the scores of valid objections and decide whether the greenbelt is to go in favour of a halfarsed attempt to 'touristify' an area author Daniel Defoe described in 1726 as "a black and dirty wilderness, indeed frightful to think of, for it will bear neither horse or man". It'll not be the first time Salford Council have ridden roughshod over its own electorate. Hmmm... A bunch of whinging hippies? Or a large BUNG? Hippies or BUNG? Fuck it, I'd take the bung too, under the circumstances... Racecourse it is then..
I'm off to enjoy my little green corner, before its too late. Some MTB carving anyone?
Big sloppy
