It's funny, somehow I got to thinking about Gone with the wind, and I realised my company is like Terra in the movie. It made 16 last year (although it took 600 off the public) and this year I hope it'll make profits in the early thousands, thanks to some huge new product launches.
One thing's for sure though, it's in my life year after year, and I work hard to build it up. And I kind of take my strength from it too. As a computer scientist, I get to make everyone else a ton of cash every day, but my company is my little bit of my own genius. Some of my skill for me. It's a safe foundation to eventually make me the money I'll retire on, and the riches that will safeguard the futures of my children.
My dad is a university lecturer, and I'm a computer scientist. So I don't suppose any of my children will take after me. But if one did rise up to take over the company in another 50 years or so, that'd be pretty cool. I'd be able to hand over my empire to the next generation. I think when my company makes money I'm going to move to the American midwest, and buy a thousand acre ranch, and raise cattle just like cowboys used to :p Then I'll have a real homestead to go with the whole empire thing :p
Anyway head out of clouds, today I've got to write the handler which sets up your new radio when you pay by credit card. I've already done one that's live right now, but this new one will work based on listeners a month, not gigabytes per month. I'll get it done by Sunday hopefully, so I can do a big ad campaign and get lots of new customers
Oh and to one SG (You know who you are) enjoy Pop Idol tonight :p
